I will give it some thought, and when I have more time will look for links to more info. Off the top of my head, I start to think of either a timing problem, ecu problem, oil pump or pressure problem, and maybe oil viscosity problem. The 2zz-ge had problems with a couple different bolts shearing off. I think one problem was with the oil pump. There is also a lift bolt problem with them shearing too. Not sure of specific lift control problems that would affect all lift, except something to do with oil pressure, which is also controlled by the ecu. Might be a protection mode that disables if something is wrong. Any codes?
Was it the oil control valve that you replaced, which is located on the rear side of the cylinder head? Maybe the connections are bad or it was faulty.
