2003 GT Tuning

Ok so I have my 2003 gt with a touch over 80,000 km on it.

So far I put in a kenwood dvd touchscreen deck in, replaced all the speakers with JBL, put in my alpine 10" type s sub and amp that i switch between my blazer (in the background) and the vibe, i also wired in a backup camera. The rims were badly curb rashed so I had them machined and painted (they machined a trough in the lip and filled the trough with red paint) and new tires. I put in a k&n SRI, and I lowered it with canuck springs. I also run Bi-Xenon hid's and hids in the fog lights as well. Thinking about putting in a rear sway bar.

But what Im looking for is ideas for other mods, tuning, particularly to the engine, what have you guys done? what has worked well for you?

For about $300-$600 you could bore your engine .30 over. Increases the HP dramatically

$300-$600 would buy the pistons. While in there, might as well get all forged internals, maybe a stroked crank, rods, do a re-sleeve, and go big. We're up to $3k-$5k in just the lower end. Now, since we did all that, we might as well do the head. 5 angle on the new stainless or titanium valves, beefy cams, dual valve springs, solid lifters, port and polish. Another $1k-$1500. Add in the fuel system and a good stand alone, $2k-$3k.

About $10k for about 250 bhp. If you are really lucky and have an awesome tuner. Oh, that's not including a ported intake manifold, a header (would need to be custom, not off the shelf), and full custom exhaust. Then there's brakes. Can't go fast on stock brakes and expect to stop very many times. Along with trans, mounts, and unibody upgrades to handle the extra power.

I'm not saying that building up the motor isnt good. I've got a $7000 motor that is going into my 75 VW beetle, and it's not done yet either. I'm looking at $10k-$15k more in drivetrain and support mods when it's all done, I hope

Question, does anyone know of any v6 engines that would fit a Vibe?

Sweet thanks for the link! The vibe is my summer car so its parked in the garage all winter which gives me tons of time to work on it. Last winter was the stereo, suspension, intake, lights, wheels, etc. So slowly picking up ideas for next winter :)

I hope not. I have about $3500 invested in performance, and I am sitting on 270whp with the stock block. Although I can totally see your point I have seen people dump lots of money for minimal gains.

I was going with a n/a build scenario. Boost opens up a much different world. 270whp on boost with a stock block is impressive. Imagine what it could be with a built for boost block. (holy crap my pants batman!!!)

I know I've got about what I described in my other car motor. With the m90 supercharger I should be hitting 450whp. But then again, the entire motor is custom and built just for loads of boost.

Oh trust me I so wish I had the money to do up the motor. I am kinda just waiting till it dies but no matter how hard I drive my car it just dont break lol.

You can get a good jump in HP by doing a Flow Master Cat Back. I did one for right around $400. It will sound really good with that K&N SRI in it and won't sound like a fart can.

add some handling! DC sport strut brace bar for $125 should be a nice touch. look into a throttle body spacer for an extra 20 hp

Throttle body spacers only work on cars with throttle body injection, the Vibe GT is port injected. Strut brace is a good idea but don't stop there, do at least an oversized rear swaybar with it...
