I have a whining noise in my 09 awd vibe in the back... my traction light, awd light an engine light came on... had it services and was told it was a vent canister... OK said I, got it fixed ($350) the whining is still there lights are gone, so obviously that wasn't the total fix... I'm thinking something in the awd or wheel bearing. I'm also thinking i got shafted on the vent canister deal, they probably just erased the light codes and sent me on my merry way. So any thoughts on my problem let me know. 130000 km on the car... how do you check the oil in the rear diff??

To get rid of that whining sound in the back, ask your spouse/kids to move to the front seat.

How many miles on the vehicle, and when was the last time the rear differential fluid was checked and serviced?

Check the oil level in rear diff.
