Post by MannyL »

This is what I'm thinking of getting. Suggestions?

I have the Moon & Tunes or is it Sun & Sound package? Either way I have the Monsoon system

Or you could buy it all from crutchfield. Select outfit my car and it will tell you everything you need and come with instruction for each piece and how to install it into your model specific car.

Crutchfield's site says

What you need to know:

A wiring harness is not available. You will need to splice into the factory wires.
Bypass your factory amp by running new speaker wires from the stereo to the output side of your factory amp.
If your vehicle has the OnStar system, you'll lose the voice prompts if you replace the factory radio.
You'll lose your factory XM capability if you replace your factory radio.

And I don't want to lose my OnStar nor do I want to splice wires

I retract my previous statement. You are going to have a heck of time. I dont have the moon and tunes setup. I know others have done what you are trying to do. Try the search function and see where that leads.

What year Vibe do you own?

If it's an 09/10 then Metra makes a piece that retains OnStar (GMOS-LAN-01)
the dash kit you need for those years is (TA2102B) http://www.scosche.com/car-audio/product/1835" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

03-08 dash kit is (PT2049B) http://www.scosche.com/car-audio/product/143" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
for OnStar you should be able to use this http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_129 ... OS-04.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

for either OnStar module you MAY have to modify the harness plug... the Scosche GM18B harness also needs to be modified if you want to use that and not retain OnStar

GMOS-LAN-012
I am wondering if this might be an updated version. It says it will work for both amplified and non-amplified systems, and does not give the caveat under the 09 Vibe of, "for Onstar retention only" that the Lan-01 and lan-02 says. Maybe most things will work better with this one.
An interesting thing is that Metra recognizes this one for the 09 Vibe (amplified and non-amplified), but it does not recommend this or any other interface (except the 70-2105 harness) for the 2010 Vibe in their vehicle fitment guide.
Crutchfield seems to be lagging on their fitment guide too if this is the right one.

Axxess catalog:
GMOS-LAN-012 GMOS Interface
The GMOS-LAN-012 is designed to retain OnStar, OE satellite, and
retain the warning chimes that are normally lost when the OEM radio
is removed. Provides a 12-volt accessory output for aftermarket radio
operation. The GMOS-LAN-012 also provides a mute, parking brake,
VSS or speed sense, a reverse output, and an ASWC harness to
make installing an aftermarket navigation radio simple and less time
consuming.

From web pdf manual:

It would be nice if there was no need to move pins and wires as some has had to do in other threads. Would also be neat to be able to use oem XM.
Somebody might have to call them.

the Reason why it says "for OnStar retention only" is because the Vibe does not have the GM data bus system like most of the other cars... there is no need for the module to retain chimes or for airbags or driver information centre info

I have the 09 so I just need the GMOS-LAN-01 and TA2102B. Is there any HU's that can use the existing XM antenna?

Ok, so after checking with the installer at work & checking Metra's site again, it IS the GMOS-Lan-012 that you need for the 09/10 Vibe. He hasn't actually done an install on one of our cars (09/10 years) so he's not sure about having to move a wire.

As for the XM antenna, it will work with an aftermarket radio as long as the ends are the same
