Just got a new Pioneer head unit for my 2009 Vibe...

Post by Eloi »

I was a bit tired with the stock radio of my 2009 Pontiac Vibe, and I decided to jump the gun and buy this nice little thing to replace it:http://www.pioneerelectronics....300BTThe reviews I read were pretty much all positive, I checked out some YouTube videos about it and it looks to be working great, with a quick interface. I got it at the discount price of $399. Before, I was thinking of getting this one (which was discounted at $299 at the time)http://store.sony.com/webapp/w...AV622But from the YouTube clips I watched, the interface was lagging quite a bit, and there was no bluetooth of course. Still, overall, it cost me way more than I planned to spend, but I'm quite sure I'll be happy with my Pioneer. I had a Pioneer unit in my 1996 Sunfire, and really loved it.The funny thing is that my best buddy just bought a brand new 2011 Ford Ranger and he bought the exact same Pioneer unit to replace his stock radio. I now have the Pionner unit for a couple weeks and I'm very pleased with it. Much better power from the stock speakers than with the original radio, much more possibilities to adjust the sound, which is better than with the stock radio. The Bluetooth works great. The only little negatives points are that the album artwork is not displayed when playing stuff from a SD card or a USB thumb drive (just displayed from an iPod, which I don't have). Also, the song titles don't scroll, there is a limited numbers of characters that are displayed. These 2 points could be easily corrected from a firmware update, but it seems unlikely to happen.

Congrats on the new receiver. It seems like Pioneer is a solid choice. If I could have installed any head unit in my Vibe, I would have gone with one of the Pioneer AVIC navigation systems. Unfortunately, they were out of my budget and the cheapest of the series that had the features that I want has been discontinued for awhile. They still pop up on eBay but I couldn't spend $400+ on a receiver at that time. I wish I could; they had a slick interface and you could control an iPod with your voice. You should post some pictures of it installed. Hopefully Pioneer is good about firmware updates (Kenwood sure hasn't been). There were some complaints about how slow the AVIC series were on start-up. They released a firmware update that cut the time down drastically. Maybe they take firmware updates more seriously than other companies. We can hope, at least.

I follow all these posts - the last thing I want to do after my warranty expires is to buy an OEM replacement that will also have the knob(s) break. What a bunch of bs that is.

If that things plays msic HALF as good as it LOOKS, then you got an incredible deal It definitely looks killer. And it looks like you can change the color of the backlighting too, so it'll match perfectly Can't wait to see some pics of it installed
