CAI/SR Intake for 2006 VIbe - Please Close --found answers already!

Post by vibe_2006 »

Hey guys,I'm hoping to get some feedback and input on a purchase. I'm thinking of getting a CAI intake for my vibe - 2006 Base model. Do you think the brand matters? I was looking at getting an Injen intake for 279+shipping, but found a Cosmo for 130+shipping. Do you think branding is a major factor? From my research, they all serve the same purpose. If I got the Cosmo, I would probably change the filter to a K&N. Also, do you guys recommend CAI or SR? For CAI, do you recommend getting the by-pass valve? Thanks,Dave

I have the Injen CAI on my 04 and love it. But I got it off here a lot less. I wouldnt change anything. Its a little difficult to clean/ change the filter but its worth it.A lot of guys here use the cosmo because it does work the same and cost a lot less. Go for it.

i got a cosmo sri recently. it is pretty cheap, but if i had to do it all over again, i would've went with a k&n intake. the cosmo intake personally caused me some fitment issues. Some other people had the same problem too. On amazon the k&n typhoon intake was only 175 or so shipped for my car. As for sri vs cai, i went with a sri because a cai wouldn't make a huge difference where i live. And to be honest, an intake doesn't net you that much power gain anyway, just sounds better. So go for either.

Hey Guys,Thanks for the input - appreciate it! I read some horror stories about Cosmo so I'm going to go with Injen CAI. I share the car with my fiancee and she does not want the noise from the SRI. That's my main reason for getting the CAI.

You realize you still get the noise from the cold air intake right?

Get a TRD SC intake for it. It's kinda like a CAI. It's as large as CAI/SRI but you use the Stock air box but the piping in larger coming in and out to the throttle. Think Bluecrush may sell you one. It would only be slighly louder than Stock but quieter than both CAI/SRI

When driving down the road its not really noticable, but when your foot hits the floor you will def know its there. My fiance doesnt think its that loud. She said it sounds the same as all other cars.

Thanks for the input guys. rmckinjr, I'm going to check out the TRD SC intake. I'm still liking the Injen intake though - the only trouble now is that the distributor isn't sure that it'll fit the base model

If the Intake will fit a 1zz engine it will fit your car.

So I've done some more research and it seems as though Cosmo is the most recommended intake. Does anyone know that size of breather I'll need for the base model? Cosmo has a range of sizes on their site
