I will eventually have it done, too, but will wait until they have had lots of practice. Taking all day is a perfect example of the repairman learning how to do it on that Vibe. Better they practice on that one than mine.
They can have all the practice in the world on mine; after I trade it in for a 2011 Terrain. I cannot believe they are going to cut my floor pan on the Vibe. It removes structural integrity from vehicle and it allows for rust to penetrate the vehicle. Toyota quality my A$$.
I took mine in a couple of weeks ago for the free oil and filter change. They wanted to do the floor modification and pedal chop job, too. I told to leave it to hell alone and just do the service.
Yep.. the service manager told me he wasn't going to be chopping on my pedal.. So said he would just order me a new one.. So nice of them.. I'll try to snap a pic later..

That's what it says in the recall letter. I am considering going this route.Quote, originally posted by 09vGT »Yep.. the service manager told me he wasn't going to be chopping on my pedal.. Went in to Dealer today for 3rd free oill change and took with me the article about Toyota replacing the pedal if customer isn't happy with fix. I explained that I was hesitant to do the recall as GM isn't willing to replace the pedal under any circumtances. Then I showed him the last page of this post where a customer did get thiers replaced. He said there is nothing about giving a new pedal under any circumstances. I told him that was why I wasn't doing the recall. When they gave me back the car after the oil change he had me sign a waiver paper saying I refused the recall. At first I was pi$$ed but then decided sure, I'll sign because....I'm not willing to gamble on a good fix. Screw GM.If the pedal ever starts going bad I'll buy the other Japan made pedal myself.
Got my new pedal last week. Do as it says in the service notice we all got in the mail and you'll get the new pedal - just tell them you don't like the feel of the chopped pedal. You never know unless you ask, but your dealer might by-pass step one and go directly to the replacment.

They said they have to modify it first. So, for now I am holding off on getting it done, but I guess eventually I'll have it done and than turn around and go back a few days later and tell them I want a new pedal .Now, the only part that concerns me is what they actually do to the floor. I know they replace the piece of styrofoam that's under there, but do they actually do anything to the floor pan as well? That's what's making me uneasy about having it done.

I was just in for my third free oil change at the dealer as well and finally had this recall/modification done. I guess I should have paid more attention when the recall letter came a few months ago. I thought it was just about the floor mats again. If I had known, I probably would have done it sooner. Thankfully, they seem to have the process down pretty good now. It took just over an hour to modify the pedal. In fact, they did a decent job on it. I didn't even notice it was cut until I read up on it here and checked it again. I will say that it feels a bit better than before. Unless I do have some problems with it, I'll probably just stick with it as is. I'm just glad I can use my floor mat again.

I called my local dealer yesterday to set up an appointment to take mine in. The lady I spoke with said they had to order parts and she would call me when the parts came in to set up the appointment. She said it could take up to a week for the parts to come in. I should be able to take it in either next Monday or Friday. I was sure to tell her that I have the GM all weather floor mats as well, so we'll see if they can actually get a hold of the new one for me so we can finally solve the mystery about what's different about it.

So I recently bought my Vibe GT 09 and I know that it had the recall for the shim on the back of the gas pedal and the floor mat recall. Now after reading this I only remember the GM dealership rep I bought it from just said they fixed the floor mat recall...they of course did this by removing the floor mat and not replacing it with a new one. That did not bother me as I was planning on buying all weather mats anyway (I already have) since due to my work I am normally wearing messy work boots in the winter. To get to the point of my question, anyway is there a way I can check visually myself to see if the shim was put in. If it wasn't I think I am going to take it to another dealership than the one I bought it from. I got it at a good price but the Buick/GMC dealership guy I was dealing with really did not seem competent about the recall. Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! You should be able to go to any GM dealer and have them run the VIN and they should be able to tell you what, if any, recalls have been done on your Vibe.*UPDATE* The dealer got my Vibe done in an hour and a half today! I have in my possession the "new" driver's side GM all weather floor mat! I also have in my possession the 32 page document that the techs use to do the entire service procedure beginning to end (including part numbers and diagrams)! Unfortunately, I don't have access to a scanner at the moment, but I am going to try and get it going this weekend so I can scan the 32 page document for anyone that's interested. The service manager printed it out for me after I asked what exactly they were going to be doing. He looked it up on the computer, his eyes got huge and he said, "I'll just print it out for you because it would take me an hour to tell you everything!" For anyone that's interested, the part number for the "new" driver's side GM all weather floor mat is: #22745618. It is available on GM Parts Direct for $29.07 not including shipping. It was not available until after July 16 of this year, according to this document I have, which could be why some of your dealers were having trouble getting ahold of one. Unfortunately, they did have to turn in the old driver's side GM all weather floor mat for "liability reasons". I was bummed because I was planning on using it for something else, but oh well. Later on tonight I will post before and after pictures of the pedal and floor modifications and comparison pictures of the old and "new" driver's side GM all weather floor mats.

The old and new floor mats are exactly the same size. The only difference is the design of the upper corner that is nearest the accelerator pedal. You'll see what I mean in the pictures below:Front-side comparisonBack-side comparisonOld driver's side GM all weather floor mat - front sideNew driver's side GM all weather floor mat - front sideOld driver's side GM all weather floor mat - back-sideNew driver's side GM all weather floor mat - back-sideThe upper corner on the new floor mat is somewhat stiffer with the new design. I actually prefer the design of the old floor mat, but since they had to keep the old one, I'm stuck with the new one . Had I known they were going to keep the old one, I would have put the carpeted mats back in and not said anything about having the all weather floor mats. The pedal so far is feeling pretty good. You'll notice in the pictures below the modified pedal is significantly higher up off the floor than the unmodified one. Before pedal and floor modificationsAfter pedal and floor modificationsThe modified pedal feels much stiffer i.e. when I hit a bump or something my foot doesn't bounce up and down on the pedal like it used to. This is a good thing because my foot bouncing up and down on the pedal is what would cause the "harsh downshift" alot of times. I am still trying to decide if I want to bother having them install a whole new pedal assembly or not.I was going to pull the carpet back and take some pictures of the floor modifications they did, but I decided I really didn't want to mess with it . Visually I see no difference in the way the floor looks on the driver's side, so the modifications they did under the carpet must have been very minor. If anyone has any questions, let me know. I will try and get the scanner going so I can scan the 32 page service document this weekend.

Thanks for the new mat informationMy dealer still does not have a clue when the new designed all weather mat will be in. If they are going to need the old mat to replace it with the new mat I just might pass on it. If they let me keep the old mat I will pass it on to " DressedInBlack " I am glad they did not make it thinner than the older all weather mats.

I asked the service manager if they had the new floor mat too and he looked surprised and said, "Yep." I told him you had been waiting for yours for quite some time now and he said that shouldn't be. He said back when this recall first came out, the floor mats were hard to get a hold of but once they became available back in July they haven't had a problem getting them since. You may want to call your dealer and b***h them out . I did quite a bit of running around in the Vibe today and I am loving the feel of the modified pedal and I am getting used to the new floor mat. It's not quite as nice looking as the old one, but oh well, it's not a show car or anything .I too was glad to see that the new mat is exactly the same as the old one except for the re-designed upper corner. I am still kind of bummed about not being able to keep the old one, but I'll get over it eventually I guess .

I just recently had the recall done on my Vibe as well. Had the metal shim insert done awhile ago, but wanted to avoid having them hack up the pedal. Went in to the dealership about 2 weeks ago to take advantage of the free oil change from GM, and talked to the service manager about the recall. I first told him I didn't want the recall done as I didn't want my pedal hacked up, but if somehow they could just get a new pedal I would go for that. He looked into it and found that they had do the pedal modification first, then they could order a new pedal for me (which I already knew from the recall letter and from genvibe). So, I decided to let them go ahead and do it. The service manager was awesome though, and completely understood how I felt, and he went ahead and ordered the new pedal before I even left. The modification wasn't too bad though (they ground the pedal down instead of hacking it off) and looked pretty similar to yours "J". I knew I wanted the new pedal though, and when I went back earlier this week to have them put it in (a very quick process as well) I am soooo glad I did. It's much better then before and looks far nicer then the ground / cut pedal. IMO it's what they should have done all along, also I now don't have to worry about any metal shims or ground down pedals. It looks exactly the same as the original pedal, just about an inch or so shorter, and also seems to have a bit firmer / more responsive feel. I would highly recommend getting the new pedal if anyone has any reservations about having the existing pedal ground / cut down.

I will of course have a new one put in my mom's as well after they do the recall on hers. Oh, and the yellow spot on the carpet in this picture turned out be some type of grease or something :I scrubbed it with a toothbrush and some carpet cleaner, but there's still a slight yellow spot . I might have to b***h them out at the dealer when I take it back for the new pedal .

My wife is at the dealer this morning for a standard warranty inspection on our 09. Last winter when they did the "metal shim" recall they really screwed up the car...badly. The gas pedal has no resistance to it and any small bump in the road would send my foot down hard on the pedal. It was both dangerous and scary. I brought the car back, took a tech with me for a test drive and they agreed there was a serious problem but that they didn't know what caused it. They took the metal shim out, started back with another one and the car was better. Not perfect but better. My wife called me 10 minutes ago saying the dealer wanted to perform the 2nd recall (slicing the pedal) even though my wife told them I did not want it. I argued with the dealer that after the last time, there was no way in hell they were touching my pedal unless they put in a new pedal assembly... no more 25¢ cheap basement solution. They refused and told me that my wife would need to sign a form stating that we refused the recall... I really REALLY hate this dealer and its a good thing that my warranty is up in 6 months caus they wil never see my face there ever again.*EDIT*The dealer called back and after some negociation with the manager, they will install a new pedal assembly. This is what I wanted from the start. It's just 8 months late.

It's not saggy or mushy like the "corrected" gaz pedal was. It doesn't move slightly up or down like the old one did each time I hit a small bump, it doesn't cause unintended acceleration when starting from a stop (seriously getting the recall caused me to experience the problem the recall was suppose to correct. I can have it out and the factory stuff back in in under 30 minutes and have the factory stuff out and the intake back in in under 30 minutes as well . My mom's was done yesterday minus the mustard grease as well . They must have had one of the "older" techs do it because it took about 30 minutes longer than mine did.I am getting kind of annoyed with the dealer though. The new driver's side all weather floor mat isn't in for my mom's yet, but they still took the old one to "turn in". I asked if I could have it back until the new one came in and they said no. I got kind of pissed and said, "Well, what am I supposed to do? I don't want the carpet getting wrecked!" They said they understood and offered to give me a bunch of paper floor mats. I told them to forget it. I put my all weather floor mat in my mom's and put the pristine carpeted one in mine . If it's going to rain I will put a towel down over the carpeted mat to keep it from getting messed up. I told them I didn't like the feel of the modified pedal in mine so they went ahead and ordered a whole new pedal for me. This means another trip to the dealer, but that will be it for mine and than I will tell them to order a new pedal for my mom's and once they get that and install it, this whole mess should be behind us. I'm hoping to have it all taken care of by December.
