Scraped my factory rims~

Ok, so i was careless and lightly scraped the edge of my factory Chrome Clad 17in rims during a turn (hit the sidewalk)... Is the rim shown in my signature below...It didn't scrape any of the chrome! So quit lucky...but the edge of the rim, it did get scraped and seems like it starting to rust or something, as the scraped area are getting darker in color...What can I do to medicate this issue so that it won't rust?

If its just the edge, I would clean the area with a toothbrush to remove the existing rust.If you have touchup paint that has the brush in the cap, you could just dab the area with the brush. Hope that puts you in the right direction.

Sorry about the mishap, it will be but the first of a long list of them. The first is the most painful, after a few scrapes and dings you just shrug and cuss silently to yourself.The first month of owning my 07 a curb was hit by one of us and the wheel cover cracked. I've thought about replacing it but really, why? It'll just happen again!Dave

That sucks, and is exactly why I went with budget alloys and snow tires for the winter as I am so lucky to either find the hidden curb in the snow bank or get treated to the surprisingly viscous pot hole on the highway at least once every winter.Many car dealers have companies that come to them once a week to do repairs to door dings, wheels, glass, etc. It might set you back $100-$150 but worth it if you baby your car. I'm pretty sure those are chrome clad aluminum, so they should not rust. Probably just grime working it's way in there. I don't think you can grind/polish it away because it is chrome clad. I I'd also try to clean it up as best as possible and then try to dab some chrome paint in there to build it up and make the gouges easier to clean.

Chrome clad is just plastic that is chrome coated. It will not rust.

you can buy clear nail polish and bush that on. it will seal the water out and prevent farther chrome damage. (peeling) put multiple coats if one is not thick. of course this is after you cleaned it out.
