What's so interesting? The conclusion was that the air filter was probably not serviced properly. Plus, if the oil was dirty enough to ruin the oil pump and turbo, the oil wasn't serviced properly either.Bottom line, dirty air and dirty oil equal dead engine.

Interesting. A lot of the information I already knew, but some I didn't. I would never clean my element with an air hose though. That would be insane! Thanks for posting the article. As far as that guys Jetta, it sounds like his moded computer chip really screwed him up.

The conclusion was still based on speculation, though the logic does lend well to the theory. Anyways one other thing I can take from this is if you're building up your car to be a race car, be prepared to service it like one too.

I find it interesting that he states an oiled filter lets more dirt in after some use and K&N states that their filters actually filter better as they get dirty because the dirt isn't released and the pores get more restrictive. You clean them to get your air flow back. I think the Jetta owner either coked his oil with the turbo and stressed the oil pump with the goo or had an oil pump failure that cooked the rest. Either way he probably didn't change his oil enough and he blew his warranty with those mods. My brother has an A4 turbo and his free dino oil interval is 7500k mi. He's on the program but hands them some mobile one to protect his investment. Dealers useing regular oil on a turbo every 7500K mi wouldn't make me feel good about buying a VW/Audi turbo off lease.

I'm with you, goodvibe!If by "oil soaked filter" the author means K & N or similar, he's wrong on several counts:1. They were invented to allow off-road race bikes to survive long desert events and have been repeatedly proven to do a great job of both filtration and air flow. 2.They work moderately well without oil, but much better with.3. If the problem was dust, the first victims would be the cylinder walls and the rings, not the oil.4.He also implies that a paper filter "needs" dust to work. Wrong again. A K & N can actually gain some filtering efficiency as it starts to load up a bit, but for a paper element it's all downhill from mile zero.Sounds to be as you say: a case of baked oil due to infrequent changes and maybe too frequent "red hot turbo" shut downs.

I don't have enough technical engine knowledge to start fooling with the fuel systems and computers, it would simply result in total anihilation of my engine lol, so I think I'll stick with the basics like exhaust and CAI until I can get my crotch rocket or 3000GT for other means of transportation. By the way, that guy must have money up the (removed) to be able to go right into another series of perf. mods right after such a horrific malfunction lol. I wish I could have atleast $15,000. -=Paul=-
