transmission surge during down shift~ 2009 2.4L auto

Does anyone notice it? When the car down shift during a slow down, it will surge a little bit....I am refering to the 2.4L 5sp autoIs this a problem or do we just have to live with it?

happens on the 1.8 liter as well Vibe2009.

If you are talking about a slight surge when the transmission shifts from 2 to 1 as you come to a stop then that is fairly common in any auto tranny.

i notice the surge more on the vibe than any of my previous vehicles...all were autos...but actually when i first got this car it was very noticeable...now after 3500'ish miles or so it's not as noticeable as before...i will still notice it once in a while.

It appears that the ECM injects a small amount of fuel to help keep the three-way catalytic converter's temperature at a normal level. If you search on one of the Corolla sites, you can find a link to the problem. Toyota said it was normal and that there is nothing to worry about.
