EVEN NEWER idea for extra audio

Post by GoodVibErations2004 »

So iv got some 8in subwoofers and some 6x9 speakers and a small amp. my problem has been how to incorporate these into the vibe in a space saving design. then i found a pair of 6x9 speaker boxes on craigslist for 10 dollars. enter probably dumb and pointless to everyone else but perfect for me idea! Install the 6x9's in the stock holes on the boxes, then insert one 8in sub in one end of each box. nice. the amp I have will evenly and properly juice all components and trust me the 6x9's can take it. one step further, install the boxes on the track thing on the backs of the rear seats. 6x9's facing up. not sure yet if i want the subs facing center or wheel wells. but i made a lil diagram(thank you Neouka for the picture of the back seats seeing as im at work) i shall post a pic when i have done this ridiculous but good for me mod. lol

I don't think this would work. The sub pushes a lot of air behind it, I'm sure its not good for the other speakers trying to play with all the force going against it. Why not put the 6x9's in your doors?

Yep, the subs would kill the 6x9's in no time... It's prolly kill the subs to.. They would be working against one another... Your best be would be to power the 6x9's from the HU and power the 8's (in separate boxes or a single box) with the amp... You could easily make the sub box, removable..

lol never even crossed my mind but cmpletely logical and most likely would happen. besides, it turns out the boxes were too small to use both in anyways. so i shall build one box but still incorporate both sets of speakers. only difference is measured porting and a seperate interior enclosure for the 6x9's. i dont want to put them in the doors because it involves cuttig door panels and i do NOT want to do that. i had origionally waned to put the 8's i the doors but theyre too big and i dot wanna deal with it. so im let with the task. fab a box with the 2 6x9's and 2 8in in the face of the box,but have the 6x9's seperately enclosed o the inside and mesure out a set of ports on the top of the box for the 8's. or possibly 2 pontiac arrow shaped ports o the front..... i sense a cheap paint drawig coming up. lol

And here it is. the ROUGH..... very ROUGH sketch of whats in my head. mind you it will lookmuch different and way better.the blue pontiac arrows are ports, and the blue box with vibe in it is a window. ill most likely just paint VIBE on the window so it blocks the light like the brake light overlay. The 6x9's will be boxed in inside the box. hard to expain but ill post pictures when i get around to buildig this monstrosity

Aren't the 6x9's component speakers? In which you don't need to box them. I don't think I have ever heard of 6x9 sub woofers. And if I did, they cant be that great. You only need to run the amp to the sub, and put the sub in a box, then put the 6x9's in the doors and run the power from the head unit.

or like i said previously, Quote, originally posted by GoodVibErations2004 » i dont want to put them in the doors because it involves cuttig door panels and i do NOT want to do that. and yes they are component speakers. and they are better than a lot of the 10's ive seen people use in their systems. not to mention they can handle anthing that sub can throw at them. i do know a bit about audio and electroics and that is what i am going to do.

ehh, dude, putting component speakers in the trunk is like putting nice rims on the spare in your trunk. Ya, its there, and its working, but you can't notice a difference. The sound will be muffled. So I would just sell them. Cause if your not willing to put them in the door, then its useless.

Putting a 6x9 in a car ment for a 6.5 round is silly... The modifications needed will outweigh the benifit of the speakers... peroid... 6x9's in general, are a thing of the past though, the only reason they are still being made is "some" cars come with them from the factory, but that is quickly going away... A round speaker will always sound better than an oval one.. it's a proven fact.... I'm NOT saying they will sound bad, espically to a "layman" that isn't all that into audio... I'm just saying a round speaker will sound better overall.. Some where, I can't remember now, I saw a high speed camera video of a 6x9 playing music and the cone was flapping like a birds wings... I think if you were to take the 6x9 boxes, and attach them to the back seat as in the first plan, but have them right below the top edge of the seat, firing up, it would be great... You might not even feel the need for the 8's .. IMHO

Well I was just saying if he wasn't really willing to sell them. But I just though of an idea, kinda like your. But to put them on the edges of the car seats pointing diagonally across the car. I dunno if that makes sense. lol

As long as he's not cutting metal to install them, I don't much care what gets done.. lol... 6x9's are good for bass, because of the larger cone area, but as far as good sound, not so much... But cutting the car to install them is just silly.. lol..

trust me there is no sound muffling at all. did you forget that theyre not going in a trunk? they will be right there behind the seats, and i probably will go back to my origional idea of facing them up on the top of thebox. its cool that you dont llike the idea and i honestly dont care. everyone has their opinions. as for me i know it will sound nice and i believe i will like the looks of it.

Me, I never said I didn't like the idea, I was just putting out there that 6x9's don't sound as good as a round speaker, based on the physical properities of the cone... I never said anything about muffled sound... If you found a company that made both 6x9's and 6.5" round speaker in the same line and tested them back to back, the 6.5 would sound better... I guess that is relitive to the listener though...

How exactly are you going to put it behind the seats? And wire them?

i can do it any number of ways. but i think ill prolly just secure them there and run the wires underneath to the amp(on the seat back of the passenger front seat)

And the speakers will be on the back of the back seats... Take some pics man... Ragardless of my "opinions" I love seeing peoples audio work... Nothing but love..
