Vibe vs. VW Rabbit (2007, 08,)

Vibe advantages: slight fuel economy advantage, price by ~2K (a preowned rabby would come in about a new 09 Vibe), roomier esp. cargo spaceRabby (07, 08) pluses: reliablility, maybe pep (vs 1.8L vibe)?Thoughts of other considerations?

My friend picked up a Rabbit for $75.. I don't know about the reliability.. it's kind of old and rusty... oh... wait a minute...Does a 84 Rabbit count? How about saftey rating? Not sure how the Rabbit does... never really looked into a new rabbit... Look's wise I'd rather have the vibe.

I would hesitate to call the Rabbit more reliable than the Vibe.Also, the Rabbit is rated 22 city, 29 hwy, kind of crappy for an economy car. My Vibe easily gets 36 hwy. If price, fuel economy and reliability are the most important things to you, a Vibe would be a better choice.My friend has a GTI with over 80,000 miles and only had one problem with it, and it's a really fun car. The shifter/clutch is a million times better on the GTI than the Vibe GT. But the way gas prices are, I'm glad to have the Vibe.

I'd expect better reliability out of the Vibe than the Rabbit.If you buy a Rabbit, then get a white one, so you can get custom license plates that say "ML8 ML8"

i was once considering the 08 rabbit 4dr w/ sunroof...it's a nice car drives pretty smooth and has good power and handles pretty well. had a 6sp automatic. the interior was pretty comfy and quiet and fit and finish was very good. i was pretty much set on that car...only thing that turned me away is their reliability and the weak a/c. i mean a/c was ok but wasn't as strong as the vibe that i test drove. but yah on the rabbit forum i've read quite a few problems with their car and the gas mileage isn't that great for an economy car. that's why i chose the vibe over the rabbit.

Previously owned a VW Rabbit and I agree with many of the other comments that the Vibe would have a decided edge in reliability and fuel economy. I did like the handling and driving feel of the Rabbit but won't go back until VW builds a history of greatly improved long-term reliability.

I love my wife's Jetta, but VW's are a pain in the (removed) when they do brake down. I wouldn't trade my Vibe for a Rabbit.
