STUPI CATALYTIC

Post by BLAQJAQ »

So my catalytic finally called it quits earlier this weak, pissed I am, but luckily I picked a winter beater this week (91 MAZDA MPV with 250k on it) so I am still on the roadApparently I have been living under a rock and the catalytic failure is not un common. I was wondering though since I have a cat-back system does it require that I replace the whole system or will the replacement of the cat it self be sufficient? I read hear somewhere that someone else has done that with success, replacing the whole system is a $500.00 expense where replacing the cat itself is like A $100.00 expense (Magna-Flow Universal High flow cat) and how does that affect o2 sensor?..especially since I just replaced my O2 sensorsMAN MODS DRIVEME CRAZY

So you picked up that Mazda,eh.You can get away with just replacing the cat, maybe that's why the light was on.I hope you didn't change the 02 sensors for nothing.Once you get this set back over with, you will be rockin.

I've had 2 cats now, cheap stock junk. Good thing you have a spare vehicle so no worries.

Man, I had a 92 MPV from 2000 to 2004 and that thing was the BIGGEST pos I've ever owned. Bought it in 2000 with 64k on the odo.I think it was used hard for a couple of years then sat up, with no use for 5 or 6 years b4 I bought it. Leaked, smoked, went through 3 starters, transmission blew up, etc...Karma dictates that yours will perform flawlessly for many winters to come. Talk gently to her and maybe she'll not leave you stranded.

There's a cat from an XRS for sale on MO. Not sure if that'd work for you. http://matrixowners.com/index.php?showtopic=72371
