LOL,I jumped to much, turns out it was a MAzda 3 variant with a whole body kit and stuff done. Oh well, tomorrow at 10:10am and I better see some pictures!
eh, it's ok I guess (Matrix). kinda looks like a "yaris wagon" now. I'd like to see the "un-pimped" version (Their name for it, not mine)I agree that the Corolla looks like a Camry now, not sure what to make of that... Show us what the cars will look like at the dealerships! Not what they'll look like after $15-20,000 worth of 'upgrades'
Quote, originally posted by NewNeptune »What really pushes the Matrix over is the scoop on the roof. What in the world is that supposed to do? It just uglifies it IMO. And increases drag. That's just the Rally Concept. It won't be on the released version.

I see they almost completely removed the window between the hatchback and the rear doors. If you look closely, there's a sliver of glass that creates a 'wraparound' rear window to line up with the hatchback glass.
I'm not that impressed. I like the look of the lower part of the bumper (like our current Vibes), but that small grill looks a lot like the Yaris. I think the new Corolla has a better looking upper bumper/grill than this new Matrix. Then the performance model engine looks like it is probably the same as the Tc's. Only 158hp/162 ft lb torque. I was hoping for more power. I'm assuming the Vibe GT will share the same engine. Oh well, I'm not planning to sell my Vibe anytime in the near future.

hmmm... I'm not sure about the rear of the trix (can't wait for the Vibe's ) but I really like the interior (except for the little oval thingie in the guage cluster) that center console looks neat
I really like the new, cleaned up interior, but you'd think they could have found a better spot for the emergency flashers button. It looks like a pimple on an otherwise clean dashboard. Very out of place.I also wish it had been bigger. I feel pretty cramped in the current Vibe.

(removed). The resale value of used 03-08 Matrices just went up by $1000!They took a smooth, slick, stylin' Generation 1 Matrix/Corolla body and made it all lumpy and creased. Yes, BLAQJAQ, the '09 back view is somewhat reminiscent an old Honda Civic Si hatchback!I certainly hope the '09 Vibe fares better. We haven't seen a clean rear-view of the '09 Vibe yet, have we?
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
Umm...I'm not sure what to think. It's got the lines of a Scion and that hood is something I would have to see in person. I think it overlaps too much up front on the grille. The interior is very nicely appointed and a good update. Notice they now have the 1-2-D3 just like a Scion as well. Apparently XRs is coming back as well for good since they have a badge picture. My other point for this would be, the people who SEMA'd the car dropped turbo's on them both. So to me that just says that you will either see a performance XRs turbo version to compete with the MS3 and likes, or it will be a nifty aftermarket accessory. For me, I am kinda leanin towards that pic of the Vibe. If it stays with that creased line, looks more muscular than kiddy, I would probably have to move to a Vibe if I was in the market. It's the reason I bought my Matrix, it had the creases and edges. The new Trix is flowy and smooth, not bad, but I think I need to get to a dealer when they hit the lot and check em out.

I doubt we'll see anything like the MS3 soon... it's possible but you can't take SEMA mods very seriously when looking at what Toyota will offer production wise. I'm begging them to proove me wrong tho haha
More Pics, the more I see these the more it grows on me I must say after spending a few minutes on MO.Engines are a 1.8L for the base and XR, and the 2.4L for the XRS. The 2.4L is only 158hp??? What a crock, the old XRS is gonna whoop on this. From Toyota Website:It's also Bluetooth® [2] capable, so you can keep both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road as you talk to whomever, wherever. And let's not forget the available 18" alloy wheels [3], DVD navigation system with XM NavTraffic® [4], auxiliary audio jack and an available 2.4-liter engine with 158 hp [5] that offers a serious sense of acceleration thanks to its low center of gravity. And whether you're going on a trip or just lugging stuff around town, the all-new Matrix has a rear hatch that opens up to 60/40 split fold-down rear seats so you get more cargo space than a conventional trunk. This coupe-style vehicle has a killer selection of technical bells and whistles such as available JBL® AM/FM radio, 6-disc CD changer and XM® Satellite Radio [6] capability. In short, the all-new 2009 Matrix is loaded with all of the little things that make for one big driving experience, no matter which road you take. Coming early 2008. [IMG][/IMG]
I look at that sliver of glass on each side of the hatch window and think, "wow. tint shops are going to charge an arm and a leg to cover that..."Looking at the rest of it, I just feel very "eh". The dash looks a little cleaned up, and it looks like the rear cargo area's under-deck storage has been re-thought, but the drivetrain options and the body just aren't anything to be terribly excited about.
MO has over 12 pages of people talking about this, and I say maybe 15% like it right off the bat, 60% say it's growing on them, and the rest still do not like it.For me I really hope that Pontiac did not use the Yota engines. Cause what would really give Pontiac the edge if they took the GT and dropped the 2.2L Ecotec from the new SS Cobalt with a 260hp turbo. I guarantee old Matrix XRS owners would make the move. Heck I would. I just don't understand their reasoning, they claim to have looked to current owners for insight to the new Matrix. The biggest complaint from those with the XR and base models, as well as Vibe owners, was the power. The power was hurting the car, so what did they do, gave the bases the same motor and the XRS a 2.4L with less hp and more torque. Yipeee I got nothing! Now a race between a Xb and XRS is based on the driver more than the car, and a tC could still waste us, what a joke. I will stick with my 05 XR AWD till it dies, then move onto either a MS3, WRX, or maybe a Vibe GT if they use the proper engine.Everyone talks and yells about how its a niche market for the performance models and that's why they won't make them, that is total BS. No duh performance models are a niche market. Do you think that Corvette sells more Z06 or regular C6. Most likely the latter. Do you think Mazda sells more 3's or MS3's. More 3's but the appeal fo the MS3 draws people into the dealer, and that would be step one in selling a car. So why not have a model that is a small market and gain some respect among others. Sure you could probably tune the XRS, but I'm 26 and not really feeling like buying a 20k car and spending another 5k to make it almost as fast as its competition.
I suppose I don't have too much to say that hasn't been said. I'm not a fan. I'm also hoping for better on the '09 Vibe, but will stick to my '06 until it drops.
I will be part of the minority and amit I kind of like it. I am not wild on how the font end looks but it does seem that they lisened to the main complants and tried to do something. ExampleMp3 player hookup, optional roof racks, rubber rear floor, better stereo, 17" and 18" wheels etc.

Well as a Matrix owner I looked at it first comparing it to the 03 which I have and I really wasn't diggin' the front fender area but then I just started looking at it on its own and yeah its different but it all flows to me. Looking at all the pics that are floating around the Silver XRS from the front side looking towards the back it does have a similar shape as the 03 Civic Si but looking from the rear side it looks like a new Subaru. but overall it has the same shape as the old Matrix and has a familiarity about it, and the interior is the same all new parts yet laid out in a familiar fashion. I don't mind the little elongated circle in the dash. I like all the new options . If I were to get one again for sure it would be an XRS. Doesn''t bother me a bit that it comes with the 5spd auto only. My son has been interested in my car for a couple years If I could get him to commit I would go buy a new one. but for sure I'm gonna test drive one. I called my local dealer and got on a call back when they get one in, in any trim. So its different but its the same. same usefulness and thats why I bought it in the first place. I'm sure the new Vibe is gonna fit the same shoes as well
i honestly dont think it looks too bad, the wall plug is in a much more useful place, i cant even plug crap into mine unless im staying out of 5th gear....i like the new 18 inch wheels, they are quite nice, stock engine sucks...honestly the 2.4 isnt too bad, tc owners/ performance companys have got them over 400hp on stock internals... if you like modding, this would be an awesome engine to start on...i seriously wish they would put the cobalt ss engine in the vibe gt, that would be a beastly/intense ride

i do like the new matrix slightly better than the new Vibe, but i hope that aftermarket companies will start actually offering parts and addons for both cars.and im sorry but i dont see how some of you guys get a Yaris outta this new Trix???????
In my opinion the reason it (XRS-GT) got dropped is because sales of those models could not be justified any longer, nobody was buying it, and my best guess is because of the quirkieness of the motor, no torque. I would bet money on it. I think they will recapture the sales of the XRS with the new motor, it may not have lift, but I bet it will feel linear in the power and not flat till lift hits .
i don't know. the 1st gen matrix was an 'original design.' by that i mean that it was a corolla wagon, but didn't look anything like the sedan. but this 2nd generation looks more mainstream...and looks more like a corolla wagon than an original matrix.i like it. it doesn't look like a matrix anymore. but i like it

i see very small hints at the bottom of the front valence but thats it.i still love it, now if i can get the new vibe and replace the front clip (fenders, hood, bumper, plastic underparts, headlights) of the vibe with the new trix i think id look pretty darn cool.
It looks alot closer to where it ties into the front door than before, I was thinking about this also. I just haven't been able to come to terms with the new Vibes Headlights, they just look Ginormous, I like that they went to seperate highs and lows, but the package is too big, in my opinion. In a way I wish it was like the old days when the wagon had the front end of the sedan, that would have opened us up to many more options, but at the same time I like the fact that even though its a Corolla it only shares the chassis and drivetrain. I need to learn to photoshop, bad! my ideas exceed my abilities.
I think it looks alright... I'm kinda on the fence with the Trix. I am dissapointed with the drivetrain. Only 158hp? Cmon... And only a 5-spd AUTO with the 2.4???? WHERE'S THE 6-SPEED MANUAL?? That right there is the biggest downfall for me, I love my 6-speed.
The more I see it - the more I like it. I think the new Camry's look good with re-designed front so I can't wait to see the Trix @ the dealer. Will definately test drive it while I wait for the Vibe
Looks like we lost the two piece hatch. I am going to miss that feature and the vibe no longer has the racks. You don't realize how much of benefit these thing are until their gone. I wish the base was a 2.4. I like the new looks over all but i agee the matrix does look alot like a yaris. At least the vibe has some resemblance so I would trade up for one in the future.
does anyone think the doors like reallllllly tall, like the bottom part below the window?
