http://www.automags.org/forums/showthre ... 961quote:I thought y'all might enjoy this. This is a brand spankin' new GM H2 in all its "glory" that went for a little joy ride at La Sierra University in Riverside, CA (my gf works for PR there and took the pics, good job DJ!). Heres what happened: This chick took her mom and kids out for a ride at 3AM and saw construction and dirt and so forth around the campus. She thought to herself "hey, this is an H2, i saw it in a commercial and it could do anything. Its an all terrain vehicle, right?" She then procedes to dive around campus for a while and then broke through the cable barrier (took 2 tries) that prevents idiots from running into the schools brand new samaritan statue. she then hit a 1' dirt curb at about 40mph, and then right into the statues cement base. Needless to say, the curb and cement were victorious. When asked why she did it, she repiled "I wanted to jump the statue, i saw it on tv" She wasnt drunk or under any kind of influence and yes, the kids were inside when it happened. This is all very true. Surely the woman is to blame for being dumb, but should GM take part of the blame for making stupid commercials that look cool but greatly exagerate the vehicles capabilities.Like that H2 commerical with the kid and the boxcar - where he races recklessly down the hillside. I dont care for that H2 Commerical. It portrays off-roaders as cheaters who don't respect the environment and carelessly take jaunts into open fields. This sort of behavior gets the tree huggers on your a** and gets public lands closed. I can totally imagine some potential H2 buyer seeing this and going "Cool". Now they have the false impression that they can drive over anything - anytime they want. (like Marge Simpson and her Canyonero) See http://www.treadlightly.com
Well, I agree that she was dumb. Who wouldn't. However, I don't think GM should be to blame for it any more than movie producers should be to blame for someone jumping off a building or a cliff, etc just because they saw it in a movie. People should realize that television is overdone. It's called entertainment for a reason. This whole "I saw it on TV" garbage is as lame an excuse as "I didn't inhale". Sorry, try again, I don't buy it. TV isn't reality. Even so-called "Reality TV" is produced to meet a goal. It would be so boring you couldn't watch it (not that most of us can anyway) if it wasn't. I guess it's true. The media rules our lives. On another note though, I do believe in low impact outdoor recreation. I wouldn't dream of tearing through someplace in a vehicle unless the area were meant for that purpose. It's just poor manors and ruins it for everyone else.

In advertising the manufacturer is making a claim - in movies, they are just doing BS to amusing the viewer. There's a difference.I wonder if the stupid lady is going to sue GM. "I saw it on TV, and now my neck hurts." (unless there is a disclaimer on the commerical in small print)

(unless there is a disclaimer on the commerical in small print)I've never seen a commercial for Hummer that showed them doing anything of the sort...only driving down a city street, or plowing across WIDE OPEN UNINHABITED TERRAIN...No case...IMHO...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

There's a difference. Not so much in the minds of the producers. Advertising is a huge industry. I agree with you to a point however. There is a claim being made in commercials. However, there's a bigger part of it too. Many commercials contain obvious false statements/acts/whatever in order to catch the eye of the consumer. It's as much Hollywood these days as Hollywood, and it's so blatant that I'm surprised anyone could take it as real. Do you see my point?I don't doubt there will be a lawsuit from this, however. That's the way of things, "I'm a fool and it's your fault, give me money." There is, no doubt a disclaimer, but that won't stop anyone. Find the right attorney and you can win anything.

Which means that if you are a 16 year old kid you shouldn't do this in the middle of a college campus.
An oxymoron is a contradiction in terms, stuff like pretty ugly, a little big, kind of mean, jumbo shrimp, etc. Probably find more people who would think that "Stupid H2 owners" is redundant instead of an oxymoron.
OH MY GOD!!! She actually tried to jump over the statue??? Thats pure idiocy. I wouldnt even do that with a crotch rocket (obviously). Thats un-believable. I actually like that hummer comercial with the box car racers, I don;t look a tthe cheating aspect of it I jsut like how creative and original it was And no GM shouldn't be blamed, she should be sent into an asylum. You don't see me trying to make a trans am do a barrel roll because I saw them do it on the mountain dew comercial!
