This has been a big story for some time here in Virginia. Surry county is not far from Suffolk, where I live. The Surry county prosecutor was really dragging his feet on this investigation. I'm glad that the Feds stepped in. I think the Surry county prosecutor was protecting Vick. I hope that everybody involved is punished to the maximum.

These people should be dragged and beaten and left in a cage with these dogs to be torn apart. Me and my fience are fairly big on environmental issues, recycling, and animal care.
wow, i didnt know people even cared about this stuff...I heard talk of suspending this brother from the league??Say what? for getting dogs to fight each other? Not my thing for real, but how can you get in troublefor that kind of thing? sond more like a hobby.

Breed (and severely abuse in the process) a bunch of dogs mean as hell with the sole purpose to use to kill other dogs... (and if they don't make the cut, kill them by means of hanging, drowning, or slamming them down on the ground as he did.) And hey, if one of your warriors doesn't do to your liking after a fight, just electrocute the dog. Yeah, great hobby man.I do believe that dog fighting would be a state and federal offense, by the way. Why else would the feds have gotten involved? So yes, you can get in trouble for it. Isn't it obvious that this is cruelty to animals? Pure and simple, he and all those involved are criminals.I say this douchebag and all of his friends need their nads ripped off by one of the many dogs they have abused. Then fry the SOB.

i think he should be suspended from the nfl for life and served in jail for whatever period he has to do..whether it be 5-10..whatever the case may be..but a guy like that shouldnt be in the nfl..just looks bad on the league, allowing such disgusting people play for them

The feds are involved because dogs from several out of state kennels were involved. I'm thinking that there is pretty strong evidence against Vick. I think that prosecutors learned their lesson during the O.J. trial, and are making sure that they have all there ducks in a row before bringing charges against high profile suspects.

Despite the standard they set recently with Adam "Pacman" Jones, he won't be punished immediately by the NFL because the precedent set for Mr. Jones is based on being a repeat offender, and Vick is not. However, I want to expect once he is found guilty the league will kick him out, but I just can't believe that. Ray Lewis was tried for murder, plead to a lower crime and turned his friends in, and all the NFL did was use him and Vick as centerpieces for promoting the NFL.The NFL has spent a lot of time and money on telling people that Mike Vick is the future of the league...they won't be so quick to get rid of him. They'll let the feds prosecute him, sentence him to 4-6yrs, and that will effectively kill his career. But the NFL won't have to do anything about it.If Aurther Blank really wanted to make a statement about the caliber of players the Atlanta Falcons prefer to have on their team (referencing Blank's statements regarding Vick flipping the bird to a bunch of fans after a game in New Orleans), he'd cut Vick regardless of the outcome of this. That would send a firm message to the rest of the players that what you do off the field matters as much as what you do on the field.

If the NFL does not step up and remove Michael Vick from the game then my choice will be to watch a lot more NASCAR this fall. They need to get some spine and stand up for morality. If they do not then we have to choose to cut them out of our lives.

Last I heard about this, they said they were not going to suspend him. If they are NOT going to suspend him, that's not setting an example for all the other lowlives out there. Dump his multi-million dollar contract, ban him from pro sports for life, seize his property and throw his (removed) in jail for a very long time. The power of public opinion goes a long way. The new NFL commissioner is trying to clan up the image of the NFL. He has already suspended Pac Man Jones, Tank Johnson, and Chris Henry. They all had prior behavior problems. Remember, Vick has just recently been indicted. The NFL has to cover their but. If they suspend Vick too soon, without reasonable evidence against him, Vick could sue the NFL should the charges be dropped. This is going to be a high profile case, so all parties have to proceed with caution.

If you allowed him to play while he was on trial and what not and then suspended him, it would kind of be pointless after the fact. They act on current information. The other things is that if you think its not that bad, then watch ASPCA shows on Animal Planet and tell me the dogs you see neglected or used for fighting are not in pain or suffering. Ever see a horse that was so malnourished it couldn't stand up. Makes you want to hurl.I think anyone invovled in animal neglect or this issue should be prosecuted to the highest degree. Dog fighting is a hard case to prove but apparently they have tons of evidence and witnesses to this, including the fact he kept kennels in his back yard. Sentencing can go up to 6 years if convicted and since it's a Federal crime you can be indicted by both city/county and the government so you would serve even more time.I personally think any professional athlete that is arrested or caught for any wrongdoing whatsoever should be given suspensions, exclusions (e.g. cannot participate in an all-star event), and I feel the new NFL guy is doing a great job because the NFL is no better than the NBA, there are a bunch of thugs rollin around. Heck look at the Bengals, almost the entire lineup has been arrested at least once for something! Honestly, it's not like its easy to get arrested unless you are doing something wrong. They should all be punished accordingly when arrest and not until they are convicted or whatever. If you did something wrong and were acquitted, then that's it, you got suspended move on, you shouldn't have been in a place or position where you had the minute possibility of being arrested anyways!

Hold on V...I think I can see Isaaclud's point here. I believe he sees it as this type of scenario:If you were in a life or death situation (say a fire) and HAD to choose save your mom or save your cat, you'd choose mom everytime. If it's the same situation but save your neighbor or save your cat, some people hesitate. But it goes right back to save the person if it's save the neighbor or save their cat.I guess since I eat beef and chicken and fish and pork, I do ultimately rank the value of life. I take humans at the top and work my way down. If you eat beef or chicken or fish or pork then you too rank the value of life.A lot of people "say" stuff on here and don't intend for it to be taken the way in which it is taken. From what I gather, Isaaclud values human life over animal life. That's his right, and it's a difficult call, but I'd make the same call. That doesn't mean I don't love my pets or that you should share my thoughts on the subject. We all agree that dog fighting, or bird fighting, or in general breeding animals to fight to the death is wrong - it's simply not right. Whether he should be suspended, or fired, or what is not necessarily up to us, and I believe that one thing that makes us different from Iran, Iraq (in the days of Hussein), and North Korea, is the presumption of innocence and right to a fair trial.

I feel the same as most members who commented on this thread. I am a big animal rights advocate. I also believe everyone has a right to their opinion. Those who do not feel the same as us about animals are the ones who miss out. Until you've raised and cared for a dog, cat or other pet, you will never have a clue what real, unconditional love is. As far as Michael Vick, if found guilty, he should be sent prison for a long time and the charge should be accessory to murder.
I feel that our pets are much like our children. They (children and pets) are put in situations that they cannot control. They don't get to chose the environment that they live in. They don't get to chose between a loving home and an abusive one. They depend on us for everything. As adults, we are responsible for their care and living conditions. I am sickened to see any child or animal abused.

Wow, I dont even know how to continue addressing this.....engineertwin summed it up...I value human life over animal life...and it's NOT a hard decision...I guess to me animals are possessions for convenience or entertainment......like a comfortable chair or a beautiful painting.....it needs to serve a specific purpose to make my life easier or something like that...VforVibe....I'm in this thread I guess cuase I was stunned that this wasa big deal....upon the "enthusiastic" responses I've seen, I was apparantlyin the minority....I didnt know this phenomenom was so common amongAmericans in general.....consider me educated

According to the Code of Virginia, various violations of the Virginia laws involving dog fighting and cruelty to companion animals are considered class 6 felony crimes, each carrying a fine and 1 to 5 years in prison per offense. Over fifty dogs were seized, in addition to carcasses recovered during several searches of Vick's property. If he is found guilty in court, he would have been better off pumping some steroids with Barry (Hulk) Bonds. My $0.02

I find it ironic that the NAACP is saying that people are assuming Vick is guilty before he's had his day in court, and he shouldn't be suspended from the NFL until he's had his day in court.Who was it that was screaming, "hate crime" during the Duke Lacrosse rape incident??????? If I remember correctly, weren't those kids thrown off the team without a trial? Can you say, hypocrisy????

I thought that he just plead guilty? Anyways, there was a radio report from the NAACP that is now saying that he is being treated unfairly. I just hope that the tendancy of celebrities getting off is at an end. I heard the judge that he pulled is a professional breeder of dogs and is a member of the ASPCA.
