Problem with Pontiac's locatin of aerial & satellite aerial

Post by ilynn »

Okay guys and girls, I'm a little ??? off. I wrote to the listserv before trying to find a top/cover to put on my roof rack and learned a lesson. The position of the aerials are smack between my side bars of the roof rack thereby limiting the size of a covering I could put up there. Has anyone else had this problem? I also looked into buying cross bars and they are $129 wo/tax for two. Is this a common price? BUT, my bottom line question is: has anyone moved these aerials. Has anyone notified or been in touch with Pontiac re: the position of these. AND, why couldn't they have been put on the top of the tail lift?I hope not to offend anyone, but as I sit here and type my disappointment, it seems to feed my temper. I even went by the Pontiac dealer to look at other Vibes thinking that perhaps they made a mistake on mine or at least hoping they made a mistake so then they could move them at their cost.Anyone out there with the same problem????????? I would love to hear you vent some tooooooooooooo.

Center and near the rear is the normal position for the antenna. (as in pix above) Same on the Matrix version. It flexes or unscrews so is generally not an issue when carrying a load on the roofrack. However, some have replaced it with a stubby or the shark-fin type. There should be a thread or two about it so do a search.Attached image shows my rear cross-bar almost all the way to the back. The antenna is still an inch or so behind and slants away.

I agree that it's a dumb location considering the presence of the roof-rack rails. But the antenna does unscrew in just a few seconds so that's what we do when putting longer items on top of the roof.

I unscrewed the antenna when I needed to carry stuff on the roof rack. sorry, but the antenna location isn't that big of an issue for me. You can always look on ebay for a deal on cross bars.

Hey, ilynn, don't feel bad. My very first post here was about this very thing.I agree that it's an awkward spot for an antenna, but like others, I just unscrewed the antenna when I loaded up the rack (we have a Yakima Space Cadet).
