Injen CAI and Borla Exhaust from Ptuning.com

Post by St. Martin »

Okay, I finally installed the Borla and Injen kit that ptuning was selling as a package deal for about $575. First and foremost, here's some advice if you choose to go with the Borla. Jack up the car, and set aside 10 minutes. Seriously, thats all it takes, it really is easy and quick to figure out. The sound is FANTASTIC. It doesn't sound like a ricer fart pipe (which is good). You really notice the bass and vibration at the high RPM's. This mod turns the Vibe into an instant hot rod. Injen Intake advice: KEEP THE CAR ON JACK STANDS. I used the instructions that came from Injen and the post that Lancer made with all of the pictures. With the Vibe up in the air and a friend giving me a hand, the whole thing only took about 1 hour. One more peice of crucial advice: DON'T BREAK THE BOLT ON THE VIBRA MOUNT!. I torqued the nut too much with an air wrench and the thing pooped on me. Luckily, there was still enough of the bolt that I was able to turn the piece upside down and bolt it on inverted. Installation of both takes about 2 hours total. remember, jack up the car so you can get underneath to see. As far as the actual power gains, it's amazing. It really is like i dropped a throaty V8 in the little vibe. The sound above the change over point is amazing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing this mod if you want more power. The grocery getter has now become a sleeper at the line!Pray that I don't get speeding tickets when I'm testing it out!Abyss Vibe GTInjen IntakeBorla ExhaustResulting in High Level Testostherone Induction to driver

Excellent! About the jack stands - did you need to remove the front wheel or can I accomplish the same thing with ramps?

Cool deal! Get a sound sample if ya can. The exhaust systems are very easy to install. Took me about 10 min. to install my TR&D exhaust. I didnt jack mine up. I'm a little guy, so no need to. LoL Let us know how ya like it. You should notice a difference with the combo.

I'm gonna try to post a sound file once i figure out how to record a WAV. Any suggestions with normal household electronics?

Not yet... the routing of the exhaust of the AWD is different from the Base and GT. According to the thread below, it may be available from Borla for the AWD this spring:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... 2102#22102

You could always go with a performance muffler and then just use a clamp-on stub with a matching tip on the right, without actually runing any exhaust through it...

Perhaps, but before you throw any stones QUIKAG, realize that you're living in a glass house, because some Corvettes in the mid-eighties had four tailpipes tips but only two were functional...

OK, OK! Bad idea, mea culpa! (and it's not like it doesn't get cold in trdvibe's home in Eagle River; I think it's just outside of Anchorage.) (But for what it's worth, in the old days V-8s with duals did most of their part-throttle winter breathing from one pipe, because the heat riser valve would divert all of one bank's exhaust through the heat passage in the intake manifold. This would usually cause the cold system to rot out about three times as fast. But, I digress...)

i have my straight pipe custom exhaust but i took that off and decided its best for when i go to the track, or if im racing. It really does help alot in speed and throttle response now that i have the old one back on. Im waiting for a true catback. On nopi.com theres alot of exhausts for matrix's. I want to know if the invidia or tanabe are true catbacks.
