Well, I'm quickly coming up on 7,000 miles since my last oil change. I put Mobil 1 full synthetic in the car on the 2rd oil change. I first changed oil at about 1500 miles with regular Castrol oil. Then at about 4,300 miles, I put Mobil 1 synthetic. Now, I have around 11,300 miles.Guess what? I haven't burned a DROP of oil in 7,000 miles with some fairly hard driving occasionally. That is much better than I can say for my old '97 Prelude VTEC which burned a little bit of oil between changes. This 2zz motor is great! The oil still looks pretty good too. I was going to go to 7,500 miles, but I'll go ahead and change it on this long labor Day weekend. Anyway, just wanted to relate my experience so far!!

quote:What did your dealer say about extended oil changes (as it relates to the warranty)?I change my own oil. Anyway, it's within the manufacturer's recommended 7500 mile oil change under normal driving conditions. I do mostly highway driving, so I don't think my car would fall under the 'severe' oil change interval of 3,000 miles.

For what it's worth, my wife's Park Avenue has an oil life monitor, which basically counts engine revolutions and uses multipliers for varying degrees of 'too cold' and 'too hot' oil to come up with change intervals. Despite mostly short-hop service which would qualify as "severe" per the manual, the light typically comes on at 9,000 to 12,000 km. (5,500 -7,500 mi.)
