Any body out there have a problem with there front disk brakes making a cracking or popping sound after your car is parked for a while. Then you drive off and apply the brakes then it makes the sound. I took it to the dealer and they installed new pads and the sound went away. But it starts to make that sound again. I looked at the pads and they need to be replaced soon. My 2000 Chevy Prizm did the same thing; basically it is a Toyota Corolla, same type of front brake set-up. I know that it is the brake pads shifting positions in the caliber. Is there a felt pad or some kind of liquid goop that you put under the pads to prevent the pad for shifting in the caliber?
how many miles on it? how long since they replaced the brakes last?no there is no felt pad or goop required to install these pads properly. Good pads if installed right they should be quiet almost all the time, maybe a little squeaking now and again. No cracking or popping sound is ever good.

I first had the problem around 15,700 miles. Now it is doing it again at 33,500 miles. They replaced the brakes at 15,700 and currently have 33,500 on it now. If not I can take it back to the dealer it's still under warranty. Just wondering if any one else is getting these sounds.
I have the same problem you have described - had it for probably the past 30,000 miles. I have an 04 base with manual and 55,000 miles. I notice it if I am backing up, hit the brakes, then start going forward - when I hit the brakes to slow down I get that same popping/shifting noise you describe. I'm not sure if it is normal or not, but I have checked to make sure everything is in place and have just kinda gotten used to it now. Just my 2 cents.
i had a problem like that but mine sounds like my brakes want to explode thats why im just going to upgrade everything! new rotors (cross drilled) newbrake pads (ceramics of course) and possibly new calipers do to me hitting 100,000 miles already
I seem to have a similar problem when my car is parked for a while. This "popping" noise only usually occurs when I'm going in reverse out of a parking space and turning the wheel. Never really noticed it when in drive cause i usually never park in a space where its easy for me to just pull out. Have new brake pads and rotors just waiting for someone to help put them on....hopefully it will take the noise away on my Vibe.

It happens to me the first time I apply the brakes after it has been parked.

I installed new pads and the sound went away, my pads where down to 10 to 20%. Found out that you can put some anti squeal stuff under the metal shims holding the pads. And that should take care of the problem, let me know how it works for you.
