cleaning up and painting rear drum brakes with disk brakes on an '03 vibe

Post by sagekai »

My Vibe is an '03 Automatic and I'm really not into the look of the drum brakes... whats the best way to go about getting the drums replaced with disk brakes? Thanks!

buy a GT.no really.the cost wouldn't be worth it. even using used parts.

In that case, since I spend alot of time at the beach, the outsides of my drums are pretty rusty from all the salt, water, etc. Whats the best way to clean them up, paint them and protect them?

look in the yellow pages for "powdercoating" I had my roof rails done not once but twice for $10.00 per rail each each time.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powder_coatingif you have a spare oven and a small kit I guess you could do it. I've been checking systems (home not industrial size) out.here are some spots out there I got from yellowbook.comhttp://www.yellowbook.com/?T=1...2&y=9

If you pull off your drums and sand the outsides well, a spray can of Rustoleum paint should last a good while and only cost $3-$5, plus elbow grease. Be sure to clean the working sides well before replacing and post some pics.

I just finished spraying the first drum with the silver Rustoleum finish paint and I'm really stoked with how it looks. The paint ran a little, but its hardly noticeable. Going to start the next one in about an hour. Thanks for all the help!

if you really want to change over then check out stainless steel brake corporationhttp://www.stainlesssteelbrakes.com/$795.00 with a minimum wheel size of 17"the nice thing about these is you wouldn't need to worry about rust with the stainless steel

Dude, looks great, and if you want to change color later on, just ruff'em up a little with sandpaper and try another color.

Been wanting to do mine forever, someday I will get out of my lazy stage and actually do these things! I've had the paint sitting in my car for well over a year now!

Looks good man... i did mine with dupli-color caliper paint. looks more textured, but black and better then that ugly rust color. and they still look good now. after washes and dirt.
