Vibe Horror Story

Post by GonzagaVIBE_03 »

Well, about 6 months ago I received 2 10 inch sub's to put in my Vibe as a Birthday present. I decided to get them installed by Car Toys because the price was reasonable and it wasn't going to take very long and they seemed reliable. Well, about 2 weeks after I had my sub's installed my check engine light came on. So I took it to my dealer and they said I had not put my gas cap on tight enough which triggered the Vapor-lock or something like that. So the dealer reset the computer and I took my Vibe home. About 3 days later it came on again and I took it back to the dealer and they said it was the same problem. So they reset the computer and off I went. Then, 2 days later It came on again. I took it in again and the dealer said I had a faulty fuel cap and that they were ordering a new one. So, I went home and once the fuel cap came in I got it installed. Well, on my way home from the dealer the light came on again, so I pulled a U-turn and back I went. They decided to run some tests on the fuel lines to make sure there wasn't a leak and they ended up finding nothing after having the car for a week. So they gave it back to me a said that they were ordering new testing equipment that would be in soon and once they got it in they would run the test. Well, they ran the test about a week later adn found that CAR TOYS HAD DRILLED A BASE SCREW THROUGH MY FLOOR INTO MY GAS TANK CREATING A CENTEMETER SIZE HOLE CAUSING THE VAPOR LOCK. I was so infuriated with Car toys. I went over to car toys that day and tore them a new one adn got them to pay for a new gas tank and intsallation, totalling about 1,500 dollars. All together, I had been to the dealer 8 times besides the ones I mentioned above. My sound system sounds great, but I don't know if it was worth the trouble. I will never shop at that store again. JUST A WARNING TO ALL OF YOU, STAY AWAY FROM CAR TOYS!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that, but at least they owned up to their mistake and covered the cost of repairing the tank...

Wow! That sucks a lot. At least they confessed and did the honourable thing & pay for the repairs.I would tell all my friends, neighbours & enemies about the crappy service I got from this shoddy establishment. Word-of-mouth is the best advertising you can get!!

This is one the worst story I've head about a sound system install.I've heard about drilling in the brake master cylinder to run the while drilling a hole to run the power cable. You always have to double check both site if a part when you drill a hole. To avoid this situation, I try to use as much as possible existing hole and screw.

Apparently one of their installation 'experts' wasn't using their noggin when they put your system in. Glad they owned up and paid for a new gas tank. I would have also asked for them for a partial refund on your install to cover your time and trouble of diagnosing your problem.

It's worth a shot. I don't know about you, but I consider my time worth some money and if I had to go to the dealership EIGHT TIMES to get a problem diagnosed that a stereo install shop created, I would be wanting some sort of compensation. I wouldn't push the issue, but I'd at least ask for something. Worse they can say is 'no.'

As was said before... at least they owned up to it and paid to have their screw up (no pun intended) fixed at no cost to you. Word-of-mouth can help out a company a lot or it can be their worst enemy... it's up to the company which one it is. If they treat me right, then I keep going back... if not, then not only do I not do business with them, but no one that I know does business with them either.

That really sucks! What were they installing to have to put a screw into the gas tank? I am going to have a set of subs installed, but I don't think my install will require them to drill any screws.I too am glad to hear that they paid for their mistake and didn't screw you out of the repair charges.

I wonder if any shavings from the drill/hole made it into your fuel filter? ARe those large enough chunks of metal to do any damage to the pump/filter?

Seems like everyone involved was lucky they didn't ignite the gas tank when they drilled into it. Foom! The drilling fragments should be caught by the fuel filter, probably too big to clog it. 500

I don't know, must have been some serious screw. supposedly left a centimeter hole in the tank, and sealed so poorly that his CEL kept coming on.
