I've been reading your posts for a while getting the feel of this forum and am quite impressed with it's character. Many of the posts I have read have been helpful. During the past 2 years I've been the owner of not one but two vibes. The first one was a 03 that was totaled in an accident (pics included)after just 9mo of ownership. The second one is an 04 with a few more bells & whistles than the first one. (pics included) Not many but I like it more than my 03. The only mods I've had time & $$ for are the speakers, Infinity Kappa Series 62.7i 2 ohm. They sound a lot better than stock but I need to up the amp & HU eventually. So enough babble, here are some pics...03 vibe after it struck a UPS truck at an uncontrolled intersection in a residential area.(I.E no stop or yield signs)Side picAnother side pic. Can you find the left front quarter panel? The New Vibe!Hope you like , let me know what you think. What happened to the UPS truck is farther down in this post.
Hello! Welcome! And holy smokes, that's a bad crash! Glad you're ok though. You're one of several here who have wrecked one and bought another, I don't think I've ever seen this much loyalty before. Sharp looking car. Enjoy your stay!

Welcome. Your first one looked just like mine did when I got her Except mine hasn't been totalled. That hood certainly does look like apiece of paper up there.
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I appreciate it.In my intro post"Hello Fellow Vibers" I did'nt have the pic of the UPS truck. (my wife had it in her glove box to show her friends) This part deserves a separate post anyway because it has a real kicker to it. Below is a pic of that truck plus a reference pic of my car and a description of the accident. As you can see my car is totaled while the UPS truck has barely a scratch on it. The accident happened at a blind intersection with no stop or yield signs in a residential area about a block & a half from my house. The direction that the UPS truck came from(heading north) was blocked by an overgrowth of trees blocking his view of my car. (heading east on a curve) He pulled out, saw my car, tried to speed up, I was looking down at my speedometer so Idid'nt see him, and all of a sudden BAM! That's how fast an accident can happen! I hit his rear end scraping some paint and his rear bumper off while his vehicle ripped my whole front end apart, exploding my battery, tearing the car's computer into a million pieces and setting off the air bags. At the time of the accident I was traveling about 30 mph. I was not wearing my seat belt. Let me tell you,air bags work! They saved me from serious injury. Any faster though and it could of been a different story. The Vibe's passenger compartment was not compromised at all, a testament to today's construction practices. The only injury I incured was a small burn on my arm from the air bag. I was lucky this time. WEAR YOUR SEAT BELTS!And now the kicker of this story...By law, in an uncontrolled intersection the person on the left has to yield to the person on the right. Although neither one of us could see each other, I received the ticket. My car was totaled while his truck only received (guess)xxxx amount of $$ damage. I fought the ticket in court and got it reduced to failure to signal!??? It took all points off the ticket, but raised the price of the ticket! I guess that's the law for ya, as long as they get their money, what do they care.If you read this, thanks for listening to me let off some steam
Was it snowing, I think I see snow on the trees in the pic with the UPS truck? Looks rough, the truck got the better end of the deal, methinks. Glad to see you made it through it ok...

Sorry to hear about your first Abyss. But it's great that you are OK and that it's safety convinced you to buy another...which is very nice by the way.

I'm confused. Here where I am, an uncontrolled intersection is like a four-way stop. So how did you get to 30 MPH from 0 so quickly? Did he stop and you kept going?

In Wisconsin at an uncontrolled intersection you don't have to stop. The person on the left has to yield to the person on the right. But because of some overgrown bushes neither one of could see each other. What the UPS driver could seeWhat I could see(These bushes have since been cut down by the property owner.)
Glad you're OK and that the Vibe did its job. BTW, thanks for the explanation on Wisconsin law. I'm up in Milwaukee on occasion for work, and had no idea who had the right of way at those types of intersections. Here in Ohio, we use stop signs and yield signs...lol.
