A wannabe vibe owner. First time buying a new car. Please help with the price

Post by rock2rocku »

Hello fellow vibe owners, I am buying a new 2006 Vibe salsa, with 4 speed AT, monotone package and preferred package. The amount I am being quoted is 18609 Out the door. It includes a 1500 usd rebate. The pricing is 18331 + ttl - 1500 = 18609. Please tell me what y'all think of this deal.Also wanted to add the following figures for my exact configuration as per edmunds. This is price without ttl and rebates. What should i realistically hope to get for this configuration?MSRP : 19015INVOICE : 17868TMV : 18231Best regardsA wannabe vibe owner

Well her invoice amount or whatever was about 17K.... and we got it to about that or about 200 buck lower. which is good. and we honestly werent gonna get a car that day, we wanted it but werent planning on it. and the dealer was like, i can do this and get this... and after it was pretty good deal we took it.So if you can get it to at least 17,200 or so that good... but 18k is pushing it... that just means theyll make an extra 1K off you. cuz my fiance got pretty much everything you mentioned.Good luck

Quote, originally posted by rock2rocku »The pricing is 18331 + ttl - 1500 = 18609.Something sounds amiss in the TTL portion; it comes out to $1,778. I went to the CA DMV website, and based on your location, price, and assumption that you'd buy the car this week, total vehicle registration fees should only be $182 and sales/use tax should be $1,512 (which is 8.25%...higher than I thought CA was..7.25%).So, total estimated taxes and fees are $1,694. They're charging an extra $84. On top of that, the $1,500 should be discounted BEFORE TAXES.I'm thinking the price should be like this:$18,331 - $1,500 = $16,831Registration Fees: $173Sales Tax: $1,389Total Fees & Taxes: $1,562Total Price: $18,393 ($216 less than quoted)Here's the CA DMV online calculatorLook at the fine print and good luck!

There's supposed to be some sort of conquest rebate, but I don't know the details.

Thanks for your replies. I specifically asked whether rebates were before or after taxes and they said that it was after taxes in california. I dont know if it is the truth or not. How do i find out whether rebates are after or before taxes in california?I am going to delve deeper into the ttl numbers but i know for a fact tat the state tax is 8.25 in california. thanks yall for your inputs. With respect to a trade in, i dont have anything to trade in, but I am working on getting a conquest rebate of 1000 bucks for having a foreign car and a 500 usd rebate going on currently.Buit how much do u guys start off when u negotiate? is it at invoice or below invoice? Thats the core point. all these numbers and rebates i can handle, but how much relative to invoice is a good starting point?

California Sucks (taxes)

Post by ZubenElGenubi »

According to the California Civil Code (Sec. 2982) , taxes are applied before any rebates.I LOVE TEXAS!!!! I got $7,000 off the MSRP and only paid taxes AFTER they were applied.As Lyle sings,"That's right, you're not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway"{okay, back to our normally scheduled thread}

you are in calif correct? are there not a lot of GM dealers that you can shop around at? i've always gone to the lease or fleet dept for the best deals personally unless i have a good sales man. the last purchase i made (last april), i spoke to the salesman who came out on the lot (i only had 10 mins to chat). i gave him a list of what i wanted, the price range of what i was able to spend or willing to spend and said, if you can do it, let's sit down and talk. a week later, we sat down w/ the finance manager and i drove off the lot with my new 05 LGT and they took my 03 VGT as trade.

i have also found internet wholesale sales depts to be great to work with. Most of the time, they usually charged $200 over invoice before all the incentives.

In OHIO sales tax is figured after dealer discounts but before manufacturer rebates. I think they also charge tax on the dealer title fees.

Also - the invoice will typically include a charge of about $350 for advertising, $20 for 6 gal of fuel, and $15 for customer contact. These things do not show up on the Edmonds site but it is part of what the dealer has to pay for the car. There is a 3% holdback - 3% of the msrp not incl. the dest. charge. FOr a $18,000 vibe that would be $540. That is why dealers can sell a car at invoice or $49 over invoice. The best guarded secret - I hear that sometimes dealers will get perhaps as much as $500 per car if they meet certain quotas. Also, dealers sometimes get dealer incentives of so much per car. Toyota uses this method of pushing sales instead of rebates.
