GT: "boost" problemquestion

Post by Greg100575 »

ive noticed 3 times the boost doesnt work in 1st geat when the engine is cold(like just started). after the engine is warm, it works fine. its almost like the fuel is being shut off when it happens, usually around 6500rpms. anyone else experienced this?oh yeah i have 5700 miles if that mattersGreg

"Boost" is positive pressure in the intake manifold from either a supercharger or a turbo. The Vibe has neither (unless you installed one). What you are talking about is the increased performance for the "LIFT" portion in the VVTL-i engine (Variable Valve Timing and Lift - intelligent). The lift is generated with oil pressure and doesn't work unless the engine is at full operating temperature. The lift portion comes in right around 5,700 to 6,000 rpm.Standard Vibes don't have this LIFT because the base Vibe 1ZZ engine only has the VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing - intelligent). This just gives variable cam timing (like the 2ZZ GT engine) but not increased lift. It's the increased lift that produces the extra power in the GT Z22 motor.Bottom line: don't rev the engine high until it's fully warmed up. My advice is to keep the revs below 5,000 rpm until fully warm. Not totally required for non-GT Vibes but still good advice.
