Quote, originally posted by kjoy182 »Hello all. I am ultra new here and I just bought a 2003 vibe gt 2 days ago, and already love it. I was doing a little extra research, and came across this very cool site. Not sure what else to say. I'm Kathy and I live in Michigan-very very cold right now! My new car is actually my early anniversary present - my husband is the greatest. Screw flowers and jewelry-I wanted a new car! I haven't done anything to the car yet, but I plan to in the near future. Well, I do have a sticker on the back that says: You just got passed by a girl. But, that's all I really have to say for now! Nice to meet everyoneCongrats on the purchase! It's great to see another GT, esp an "old school" one Now we need pics! Quote »I do have a sticker on the back that says: You just got passed by a girl. lol, that's great - almost as good as "you just got beat by a wagon "
Quote, originally posted by kjoy182 »It's salsa (I think-if that's the maroon color) - It's the GT-so it's a stick. I've never even driven a stick in my life, but I HAD to have it regardless-I'm getting pretty good at it-I practiced with an old truck so I wouldn't hurt my car. Get off the roads Michigan'ers! Like I said, I only got it 2 days ago-so I'm still a little unsure on the specifics. But it does have the moonroof. I was sold on it when I saw the moonroof. The interior is black, and everything looks brand new-can barely even tell it's 3 years old. I will post plenty of pics the 1st chance I get. Thanks for the interest Well, I hope you've had the chance to experience LIFT! If not, you've gotta check it out - easiest way to get a feel for lift is to comfortably shift up to 2nd or 3rd gear, then open it up to 6200 RPMs, at which point you'll get a 50HP kick in the pants (higher cam profile engagement) all the way to redline - just be sure to shift before you hit the limiter . Don't worry, the engine is designed to be high-revving. Before you know it, you'll be landing 1-2-3 lift shifts .
Im not a racing guy but.. can the baby vibes hit lift??? would it be the same for us base models minus the higher rpms?

15 seems really low, but maybe it will get better as you get better with the manual tranny.MPGs depend a lot on driving style. My gas mileage would be terrible if I had a GT, I'd be hitting lift all the time. It also could be a mechanical problem, one of many possible things, hard to say. I'd be pretty upset with only 15 though. But you've only had it for 3 days, that's not really a lot of time to get a feel for the real mpgs and average out the variances from how full the tank is when you fill it up each time (unless you've been driving it continously for three days)
First question, how many miles on the car? Secondly, if you're driving mostly in town, that'll kill it as well. But 15 does sound really low. I have an '05 base automatic, and in the city I get about 27. It goes to 34 in straight highway, and the overall average is right at 30.Plus, if you're just learning how to drive a stick, you're probably not maximizing economy, but that will improve along with your skill at shifting yourself. Let us know what happens.
Mods: 04 center armrest, 04 Matrix AM/FM/CD/Cassette, Electrochromatic rear view mirror w/compass, GM hood protector, Ventvisors on doors and moonroof, one-touch close moonroof. added 12v outlet in console, Goodyear TripleTred tires, Sirius satellite radio.
When I was learning to drive manual my mileage was not the greatest. As I became more comfortable with driving standard my mileage increased significantly.
Congradulations and welcome!Once you get settled into this site we are planning a little Michigan Vibe meet on April 1st if you are interested in joining. Bring your husband with so he can see how sweet Vibes can be Just lookin at the cars and then headin out for lunch after, so check out the Michigan forum for details: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=21528
things to check or do if not done already...proper tire inflation (listed in driver door jam)replace engine air filterOil Change (a synthetic 5w-30)keeping shift points and rpms no higher than 3000 rpm will help.faulty or plugged Cat converter.
Quote, originally posted by kjoy182 »Eek! It does? I knew nothing of it. Only filled up twice now though. I just assumed it took regular, didn't realize it would take diff. than a normal vibe. Will it do anything bad if I run it on the wrong stuff?Premi-yum is required for the GT models - regular in the base and AWD The GT's engine has a very high compression ratio compared to the non-GT models. The engine will be damaged if you filled it up with regular for a long time - but a few tank fulls shouldn't have messed anything up, especially that it's cooler outside. I hope the previous owner followed these recommendations... This could be the root of your low MPG... also when you're learning to drive stick - be sure and keep the RPM's as low as you can, unless you're in a situation where you're merging into fast traffic or whatever... I can get my Base Vibe down to the mid-twenties just by winding it out a lot... once you hit 3k RPM - your fuel usage goes right through the roof.Go for a drive in an automatic car and see or listen for exactly where it shifts... you should be doing the same. good luck - and welcome to the site!
Hey... well you can do "reply" and insert one at a time or make a photobucket account and upload them... copy the "tag" link and paste them here!good luck... i couldnt do it at first too. dont feel bad!

looks nice. if you right click on your pics at photobucket, then go to properties, copy the file name, then insert between the image icon on your post. then your pics will be in your post.

Don't want to screw myself with the warranty thing.Right now, I have just a couple small things. I do have a sticker that says you just got passed by a girl-I should have got a picture of it. I have one of those stubby antenas on it, and the vibe cutout on the 3rd brake. I love it - I'm amused so easily! And of course, a Doors decal. I take Jim with me everywhere Haha, I love that sticker. Very nice color, and it's nice to have another GT'er on the boards
Nice GT! I just opicked up my new, leftover, 05 GT last week too! I'm in the same boat wanting to upgrade without messing with the warranty. No pics of the driver?

Very nice! And very clean! Getting it out? I could not help myself with this mild winter we had and got mine insured on the 10th! Been driving it ever since!
Yeah no kidding! Gas is going up just as people are taking their cars and boats out, vacationing too! Really sucks! That will not stop us from having fun though will it?
13 gallons @ $0.20/gal extra (premium over regular) is $2.60 more per tankfull vs. regular. Can you buy a bottle of octane boost for $2.60? I don't think so. Even if you could, there is no way one bottle will raise a full tank from 87 to 91 octane. Read the small print on the bottle.
What djb383 said is correct. There is no way you would be able to improve the octane rating by 4 just by adding a bottle of octane boost. If you don't want to pay for the premium, put in the 87. You will lose out on the performance benefits of the car, but you shouldn't damage it as the knock sensor should just rob power from the car and vent the cylinders prematurely. That'll give you horrible gas mileage, but shouldn't damage the motor.Moral of the story: if you didn't want to buy the 91 octane, shouldn't have bought a vehicle with a compression ratio higher then 10.5:1. Sorry if this post seems fecetious in anyway, it isn't meant to be. It's just meant to be informative.

i'm not advocating use of medication without a prescription, but a small dose of xanex is magnificent in such situations. (yes, i am saying that seriously)
