Definitely worth it. It replaces the entire stock plastic shifter base assembly with the new solid steel TWM base. I can't imagine going back to stock.

Coupled with speed-source's brass shifter bushing, and the shifting slop is gone. I recommend a heavily weighted shift knob, although TWM's finish has not held up to their claims, in which they say the finish will last the life of the car. heh, it lasted about 3 months before it began fading off - now i'm in the process of getting it exchanged for one w/o a finish. Here's some pics of the unit compared to the stock plastic one:And the knob now:

Psychobroker, did you install the shifter on your own? I hear that even a slight miscalculation on a short shifter install can carry some significant concequences on your transmission...

It makes no adjustment to the linkages. All it does it shorten the arms they connect to for less travel, as well as lower height.

What a small world. i had a TWM on my Z before I traded it as well. I miss my tred zx2. that thing was fast as all get up with all the crap i had on it. I plan to get the TWM on the vibe but right now I have the TRD shifter and I like it. there ia one on ebay, here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

true. I like the roominess. vibe isnt as peppy but much more roomy and great on gas. I had so much stuff in my z that it bit on gas mileage. had 138K miles on it when I traded for the vibe and still running strong.

yeah that is the only downside to TRD is having to alter a couple minor things. By the way the link was to a TWM shifter on ebay for a discounted price.

I have that, with the weighted knob, the brass bushings and some really good tranny fluid from Amsoil. It feels slick, responsive, short and just about perfect -- my auto X buddy was freaked how quickly the shifter can move through the gears. My goal was to turn it from an indecisive shifter into a shifter with rifle bolt like action and it made a big difference, feels like a cheap rifle bolt, but pretty dang good all things considered. I recommend very heavily that you get the bushings at the same time, they are cheap, take like 15 mins to install and if your tranny has 30,000 miles on it go ahead and change the fluid to something slicker -- i recommend the AmsOil for our GM part number, but that is totally personal. All together it is a good investment, makes the car feel real fine.

I just received my TWM shifter and Type-R shift knob today. Took just 2 days to deliver and just over an hour to install. This thing is awesome! The stock shifter assembly flexes like crazy both in the plastic frame and due to compression of the rubber bushings located at the four mounting holes. The stock shifts are squishy and cushy and soft, which is nice for a cushy daily ride, but take so much time and you feel like you are shifting beyond the gear since the shifter continues to flex after gears have been switched. This caused me to wait a bit to hit the throttle and probably made me ride the clutch a little bit. This shifter assembly is so rigid and solid feeling it's like driving a totally different car.The Vibe/Matrix shifters are on sale at TWM right now through the end of June, saw a link for the sale at MatrixOwners.com and ordered one right away. I was a bit hesitant as it's the first perfomance and handling mod I've done to my Vibe GT.I couldn't imagine going back to the stock shifter assembly. Eibachs, Injen CAI, Magnaflow exhaust, Progress RSB & DC Sports STB will be here next week for installation so then this shifter can really be put to the test.Another thing...the fit and finish of this thing is excellent. The machine quality is perfect, no burs or skewed threads. No adjustments were required to the shift cables which is the one thing I was worried about. Installation was a breeze. A big to TWM.
