Hi everyone I am about to be putting in some new JL audio and I ran across someone that sounded like they knew something..... until he told me something that I am just not sure of. Ok anyone that has ever took out there radio and installed a after market radio, you have seen the two main plugs on the back anyways you plug one to the radio with the connector, but then there is that one smaller plug that was left disconnected anyways back to the guy he told asked me if anyone had told me about after market equipment, I told him not really exept for the special power wire you had pt in. he told me that that unused plug is actually for airbags and it tells them when to deploy and that it goes through the factory radio to make it work you had to buy a special adapter that did this for you on after market radio for like 100 buck I personally don't know if its true so I desided to bring it to the wize and all knowing experts here on this forum LOL thanks I'll check back to see what everyone says
he lied.the second 12 pin connector is a aux control. for such items as cd changer, or factory XM.some GM's might run some of the supplemental restrain system thru them for onstar porpuses though. your bag will still deploy.as i might be wrong, but remember reading how the SRS system has to be a stand alone system. as required by GOV regulations.always remember this. ALL SRS ELECTRONICS AND COMPONENTS ARE MARKED BY YELLOW WIRING.
You hit the nail right on the head there. One could always unplug their factory radio and switch on the ignition to test... Check the air bag readiness light in the tach, it should light steady for several seconds then go out. If it doesn't come on or go out when it should, yep there's a problem. The air bag system will let you know when there is a problem... So if taking out the radio causes something to be broken or disabled, you will know about it. And that has yet to happen with any of these cars. Always remember kids, these cars are Toyotas, so the car isn't the brightest. Don't let those familiar with modern GM audio systems and the numerous responsibilities the radio has within the vehicle try to convince you that the one in the Vibe does the same... The only things that go in and out of that radio are used for are, uh, stuff that is associated with the radio. At least with the '03. I don't know how the newer models with OnStar work...

YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
