Anyone have a basket type roof rack?

Just found this site - its great! Have a question. I ordered a Surco Safari basket rack for camping from Access Connect. They shipped the mounts separately - last of course! So i already had the basket put together when the mounts came and they don't fit into the rails. Anyway, have to send it all back so am looking for something that will work. Any suggestions?Thanks

They did not have one that said it would fit a Matrix or Vibe? And is there no way the basket can fasten to your roof rack/rails?

Their chart said it should fit but when I got it the mounts that fit in the channels are horizontal to roof so won't fit in rail channels. I called Sureco and they said they realized this about 6 mos ago, but some places still haven't corrected their advertizing...may try something custom - all I need is something to fit in the channel with a horizontal flat part coming out to bolt mount onto

now I've never had anything on my roof racks before so I don't know much about cargo trays and baskets that would fit. Is there no rail attachments that fit the Vibe that you could rig to the basket in any way? Unless this basket place comes up with a new design since they are aware their current one won't fit.

Could attach it if I had cross bars that fit flush. Checked all the parts yards around and they don't have any 2003-2004 vibes.

Well all the Vibes have a bit of a curve to the racks... GM doesn't make ones that are flat... have you looked into getting like a Vibe cargo tray that the basket could mount to?btw welcome to GV.

do you have the roof rack cross bars on your vibe? if so, then you should be able to get some rack attachments from Yakima or Thule that would be able to use a basket carrier. if you have an REI around you, i'd check with them. and yes, welcome to gvc. always good to have more females on the boards!

Thanks for the welcome -- think I'll hang here a lot! Did check with REI but was pretty pricey for complete set up. I don't have cross bars but have an idea to try out tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.

what is a Vibe cargo tray - is there a pic I can look at somewhere?

cargo tray is just a tray that sits inside the car and folds up to hold things. not what you're wanting. i would suggest going to a camping store and see if they can figure out what brackets or type you need to make it work, so you know what to look for. otherwise, see if you can find anyone who is willing to sell their cross bars to you.
