Passenger door rattle, noise, whatever....

Post by tothebone »

I have a 2003 vibe, bought it used from carmax. I love it to death but there are a few rattles that have developed that drive me up the wall. The one that pains me the most, I thought was in the b pillar between the front and back passenger doors. After thoroughly destroying the plastics several times and shoving all kinds of foam in there. When that didn't work I took the front passenger door apart and secured any loose cable, tightened anything and everything that may cause the rattle. That did nothing. I realized its the door itself rattling against the jamb or whatever you call it. The temp remedy is to shove a peice of 1 inch foam in there as the door closes. It seems to push the door out enough to stop the rattle. Has anyone experienced this or does any one know if it can be adjusted? It looks kinda silly driving around with a blue foam cushion sticking in the door. Any info would be appreciated. It's driving me up the wall!

Make sure the door check is tightened...mine was loose at one point on the driver side...Otherwise, I'd say just check all bolts and be sure they're tight...

Is that the thing in the door or the thing on the 'jamb' that the door latches on to?

Yeah...it goes from the frame to the door itself, has two bolts on the frame holding it on.
