4th to 5th gear is not as direct as going from 2 to 3

Post by 21Rouge »

I have an '05 5 speed Vibe. Since 1986 I have had always owned a 5 speed vehicle. Is it just me or do you find that you have to be extra precise with the clutch to get a very smooth shift? That's ok but what I am really calling about is the path of the shifter. I find the shifter moves smoothly and quickly from 2nd to 3rd gear. But from 4th to 5th I seem to need to follow the zig zag more exactly (ie up, right than up). Again, going from 2 to 3, it is almost a straight line diagonal path which allows for a very quick shift. Do you guys know what I mean?

I think I understand what you are saying.... however, I've not noticed a difference on mine between 2 to 3 and 4 to 5.

I find the same thing happening in my GT. Also, when taking off quick, i find I often seem to grind when shifting 1 to 2 and cant figure out why, clutch is to the floor and my foot's off the gas... any ideas? /end hijack
