unichip

Post by kharman »

i'm thinking about installing a unichip (my said she would buy it for me for my birthday...cool wife, huh?)...anyone in here have one?...if so, did you notice any gains?....i already have a K&N intake and magnaflow exhaust, so i assume there will be some noticable gain...

unichip

Post by kharman »

well, i ordered my uninchip today...it's being tuned for a base vibe with CAI and magnaflow catback...i hope i didn't waste $600.00...i'm also expecting my sportlines, sway bar, and powereslot rotors anyday now....holy crap, my wife is going to kill me when she sees the money i've spent in the last week...but why make if you can't enjoy it, right?....those of you who've put in the chip on a base vibe...was it worth it?...

Let us know how it turns out. I have wanted to get one for a while, but never gone through with it yet. I'd like to know how much of a difference it makes as I have a base with CAI and exhaust as well.

Thanks. I'll have to check some local distributors and see if anyone is willing to deal. Mostly I've been looking on the 'net and not finding much.

Have you already installed the cai and exhaust? If so, then You'll love the added kick the Unichip will give you. I have an auto and with the unichip it also shifts faster and smoother then before. Yes, to me it was worth it. Especially since I'm gonna be remapping it when the S/C and header goes in soon.

yes, keep us updated on the chip and the gains you get from it. I want to be sure that the 800 bucks is worth it before I go out and get one.

update that you asked for...i've been doing a lot of driving, and one thing that is very noticable are the shift points....the engine revs higher before shifting than it used to, and the shifts are much, much smoother (i have an auto)...and although i haven't had it dynoed yet, it definately feels like what the Unichip website says it is...most of my power seems to be coming in the higher rpm range (3000 and above), but there is a noticable off the line added punch....for me it was well worth the money....Quote, originally posted by damronjr »Thanks for the post, keep us up on any other things you notice with it. Any idea of before and after gas mileage? Higher RPMs have to be hurting your mileage.

i haven't really noticed any difference in fuel milage, you see, i have this problem with mashing the pedal to the floor too much, so i've always had poor gas milage!...but i have been slowing it down since gas here in florida is $2.22/gallon ( i buy gas wholesale at costco, and it's still 2.22 for premium)...still loving the chip...i'm wondering if it has adpated after a few days because it seems much better than when i first installed it...is this possible?...or am i just imagining things?...if i am, i have one hell of an imagination...Quote, originally posted by mikey00 »Any idea of before and after gas mileage? The install is pretty strait foreward. You take out the glove box and loosen up the car's ecu and plug in the Unichip to the ecu and the harness wires into the Unichip. The connectors only go into their assigned plugs so you can't really mess anything up. I did however install it upside down so that it would fit back under the glove box so I had to redo it. It only took me about 30 minutes to install then you connect the battery up and let the engine idle for about 15-20 minutes before you drive it. You might notice a change right away, but the real power comes after a few days when the cars' ecu learns to work with the Unichip. I've had it for almost a year now and it was definatly worth it to me. I've beaten and suprised many supposidly "faster" cars with my set up .But since I'm getting the ATR turbo kit and it comes with a preprogramed E-Manage unit, I'll be selling my Unichip after the turbo is ordered for $500 (was $700 new). It's tuned for the base auto Vibe with cold air intake and catback exhaust. Anyone with a base auto can use it even with a supercharger. You'll just have to send it in and have it remapped for about $35.

I'm wondering, will the chip work well with an AEM Short Ram and Flowmaster 60 series muffler? Or is it not even worth looking at if you have anything other than a CAI and catback exhaust?
