Well my car is in KM and I have about 4000km on it right now so she's hardly broken in yet... more likely not broken in yet lol. I get about 450km per tank of fuel. Mine is base 5spd also.

My best mileage was on a road trip from Virginia to Maine during last Christmas. Keep in mind thatit was winter as so cold out, and the car was carrying oodles of gifts and my wife and I. We still managed just over 40mpg for the trip. My worst mileage was right after I bought the car. In other words, not broken in yet. That was about 23mpg in the summer. I have an two tone salsa 2004 base 5speed with 15,000 on it.

I was getting about 28 to 30 in the winter, 32-33 in the summer.

Of course virtually no one gets the EPA rated mileage, even though the published numbers are adjusted down something like 10-12% from the actual test data, but it's interesting that the base Vibe 5 speed is rated at 37/47 MPG, when the tiny Daewoo/Chev Aveo 5 speed gets only 32/46...

From what I'm hearing that Aveo is unusually heavy for a car of it's nature...
