Where did you get your windows tinted around Chicago?

Post by SGT »

I am considering getting the windows tinted in my Vibe, but have no idea where to even start to get estimates. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to where to go in the Chicagoland area to get window tinting. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ziebart is one of the largest window tinters in the nation. i'm sure there's one near you. that's where i'm getting mine done next week.~blake

I would suggest the first question would be what kind of window tint, dyed, metalized, ceramic etc. I have been researching tint for my Vibe and have decided on Huper Optic ceramic type. It does by far the best job reducing heat and will last the longest (does not fade like all other tints). Bad news is $549 installed. Here is a window tinting installer website, check the forum for all kinds of good info.http://www.tintdude.com/dot-matrix.html

Thanks for the posts. 20% would probably be ok for me. I don't want the windows to be too dark, but to look kind of like the 'stock' tinted windows you would find on cars where this was an option from the factory. Does Ziebart waranty their work? How much did it cost if you don't mind me asking. I went to a place near work which is a body shop and does paintless dent removal as well as tinting and pin-striping and they told me it would be $225 for the back 5 windows. Just wondering if that is fair or way off base. You can probably tell I have never had car windows tinted before.

If you're willing to take a drive down South... I would recommend Lisa's Window Tinting near Danville. She comes highly recommended by many auto-parts places. Cost me $219. and she guarantees her work for the lifetime of the car. She takes appointments but when I got mine done she was setting appointments 2 months in advance. Number is 217-443-4865 Dave

I would second Lisa's in Danville. She has done a couple of vehicles for me and her work and prices are the best. She does warranty the tint for as long as you own the car. My Vibe is due to be delivered in late April and I already have it scheduled in to her. Bob

I wish Danville were closer. It is over 200+ miles for me one way. Thanks for the suggestions though. I do appreciate them.

Yikes, it shouldnt be. I live about 15 miles north of Danville and I can be in Chicago in under 2 hours. I guess if you are north of Chicago, it could be a good jaunt though. I just talked to Lisa this morning and all 7 windows for 239.00. She will even do a windshield band if I want although I am not sure about the dot matrix bs at the top. Good luck finding someone more local. I am sure there are tons of folks that do tinting up there. We just have the best one down here Bob

Yea, I live in the NW suburbs west of Schaumburg. It takes me close to an hour just to get to Joliet! Still something to consider if I have trouble finding someone I like around here.

Hi rlong,She quoted me at $239 but then she saw the car and realized it was smaller. She then did it for $219 (maybe $229?) Still very reasonable for what she does. The front band across the top, though I didn't get it done, is cut around the dot matrix stuff. It doesn't go over it. She said that the glue from the tint film wouldn't have much surface area to stick to so she trims around it. And seeing hos she trimmed the windows, I'm sure she gets very close and very clean edges.I can check my receipt if you want but she did charge less once she realized the size of the car's windows.Dave

David,Thanks for the data. I am sure she will adjust and if she doesnt, no big deal (She cut me such a deal on my Wrangler that I probably owe her). She has done several cars for me and I couldnt be happier with her work. By the way, did you know her husband accidentally shot her with a high powered rifle earlier this year? He was cleaning it in the garage and it passed through the wall and out the oven into her side. Darn near killed her. I got to see the scar . Hearing her tell the story about made me ill. She is good people. Hope to see you around.Bob
