I was talking to another buddy of mine who owns an 03 Vibe. He was driving with his wife up to Lake Louise when his winshield suddenly cracked from end to end about 4 inches above the dash.Mind you, it was -30 outside, and he said his defrost wasn't on full heat at the time. He said that this could happen if the heat was on full and the temperature difference between the inside and outside is very high.I was wondering, has anyone else had this happen to them?
Good points. I wonder if the cold just made the winshield less 'accepting' of any additional flex in the body. He was travelling on the highway, but I'm assuming that he wasn't pull e-brake turns on the #1. LOL
Nothing else than having the windshield replaced![/QUOTE] In Alberta they don't have comprehensive insurance to cover windshield replacement because they use sand and gravel on the roads a lot more than salt and everybody has a cracked windshield. So a broken windshield can be a major expense to replace.
In Pennsylvania our insurance companies will charge you your comprehensive deductible if you get your windshield replaced on an insurance claim. But if you can have it repaired, they cover the whole thing which in some cases can cost more than replacing the windshield. I had this arguement already with my former insurance company. Go figure.
