I was at the Washington DC Auto Show and they had a SWEEEET new Vibe GT with a GPX body package. I'm not sure if anyone had mentioned it yet, but the car came in a dark Gray color (I think they called it Shadow Black or something?) It was shod with 235/45ZR18 tires with beautiful Multi-spoke Alloys and lowered about 2". It also appeared to have two-tone LEATHER seats (though they wouldn't let me cross over the line to look at it) It also had a gorgeous new front bumper and fascia package with billet aluminum grills. It also had a new rear bumper. Both front and rear bumper fascias removed the strakes in the plastic and gave it an Audi S4 look.. In addition, the luggage rack was removed and there was a add on piece that made the roof flat to the back. At the back end was a spoiler (Alot like the Golf R32)Unfortunately my damn digital camera eats batteries and I wasn't able to take a pic of the car. The girl working the booth said that Pontiac is planning to offer the package on future Vibes (though she didn't really seem to know much about the car at all)If anyone is going to the DC show or the next one (I think in Philly) make sure to check it out.. Its SCHWEEEET------------------------------Silver 03' Vibe GT with 43k miles and counting!
check out http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1379I hadn't heard that GM would actually offer any of those mods, thought it was just a concept car. People have been waiting in vain for those things for a whileQuote »(though she didn't really seem to know much about the car at all) unfortunately a recurring theme
Yeah they should have people running the booths that look sexy and know the product to eh? heh...Anyway thats one sweet looking kit on that Vibe. GM does make a body spoiler kit for the Vibe (for about $3000 canadian on a factory order) It looks pretty good also but doesn't change a whole lot of the appearance. Lowers the bumpers, side panels and has two spoilers on the rear but thats about it. If you find anyone that makes kits like that in the pics though, you'll have to let us know.

There are no immediate plans to release the Vibe GXP as it stands. Even if they did, as I was told, it would not pass GM standards for a public release due to it's extremely lowered ride height and wheel size. Check out this thread for more info:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=7189
Well I knew it was too good to be true. To be honest, I'm more interested in the bumper trims. I wonder if Pontiac would sell the front and rear bumper fascias as after market add-ons? Maybe we could get enough interest to persuade them? Other than the trim, the paint, and the seats, it appears to just be a base Vibe with the supercharger package and bigger, wheels/tires/brakes. The rest of the mods (Suspension, Brakes, Wheels/Tires) can be done by anyone.
They ARE releasing the Bonneville GXP shortly to replace the SSEi...nothing says the Vibe GXP won't come out eventually, even if they forego 18" wheels or the lower ride height...

If they have no plans to release something because of corporate standards and everything, then why in the heck are they teasing the public with this car for over a year now? Many people want this sort of stuff for their Vibes, GM shows it on its show cars, then turns around and says that they can't make it that way. Then the next year rolls around and they do the same darn thing again. Why? Just to show people what COULD be done with the car? Well, heck, for enough money, I could probably turn the Vibe into an aircraft. With enough cash, you can do just about anything with any car, that's nothing new. I want to see that GM is serious about appealing to younger buyers and the tuner/performance crowd. I want to see the car offered for sale to the public with some of these options. It makes no sense that they keep teasing people with things that they never intend to produce. That's just misleading. Other carmakers are offering similar things for models that they sell, why can't the largest carmaker in the world do it? GM needs to pay off the old stuffed shirts running the place to get them to retire and replace them with some people who have some vision for the future of the company and care about the long run, not just filling their pockets in the present like the geriatric ward that is running the company now. If they keep this up, they won't be fooling anyone for long. They could then change the company slogan to something like: "GM; proud manufacturer of cars for the great great grandfather in you".

In their defense, I personally think GM is doing a better job than they were a few years ago getting concepts into production. Years ago, it seemed liked maybe one or two concepts actually made it farther htan that stage. But now, we have the Vibe, which was a concept, the Bonneville GXP on its way, the G6, in the next few years, the Solstice...that's pretty damn impressive in my opinion. The only concept on the Pontiac page I don't expect to see is the Sunfire tuner edition, and that's ok with me, because it's fugly by my tastes. But still, I'm happy to see them taking amazing cars such as the G6 and Solstice, which, as of last years NY Auto Show, at least, were not slated to ever go into production (unless they were, but no one knew yet).

It's not so much that I am complaining that they should bring concept cars to the market as the aftermarket parts. The GPX Vibe is not really some one-off car that is so unique that it had to be hand built. They took a production Vibe and modded it, just like many of us want to. Many of those things can be mass produced and brought to market. Other carmakers have aftermarket performance divisions that sell sporty and fun things to add on to the car, why can't GM? It's as if they have the mentality that once they sell you the car, then they don't care about you until you come back to buy another new car. The Solstice and G6 are nice and all, but honestly, I don't care! I just want parts for my Vibe! Surely it must be much easier to produce and sell parts for our cars than it is to take a wild concept car and bring it into production. And let's face it, most cars on the market today were at one point concept cars.

Ok, I see your point now, and I agree. I am VERY disappointed with the serious lack of customization and parts available.I'd love that color, and even that front end...I'm with ya on this one!

I don't know if anyone saw the Scion exhibit at the show.. but they gave a way ahuge catalog all about their car and ways to customize it. The catalog even had 4 or 5 examples of Xa and Xb Tuner cars and what was done to them. If you go to their web site, you can pretty much factory order the car with TRD components like 19" wheels, Lowering Springs and struts, short shifter, spoilers, ect.. All the stuff that Pontiac should be doing with the Vibe!!! I think you actually CAN order this stuff for the Matrix and it comes with Factory warranty. What's taking Pontiac so long??!?!?
That is EXACTLY what I was talking about. The old grey hairs running GM don't want anyone having any fun with their cars. Maybe if they'd put the effort into building them better then they could offer these things and not have to worry about costs on warranty repairs when people have fun driving them. If the cars were built better to tolerate the driving of the driving enthusiast instead of GM buying the cheapest parts they can locate/manufacture to just throw on the car and hope it lasts for the duration of the warranty period, then these things could be offered and people like us would enjoy our cars more. But no, they have to worry about saving 0.0000002713 cents per radio knob so that some already obscenely wealthy GM corporate executive can get their multimillion dollar bonus for the year.
