Queston from 5 speeders

Post by MrRich »

I have my Vibe almost a year now.And this problem(maybe not) is from the first day.So it's the reverse. Not all the time, but very often the stick dosen't want to go all the way to reverse. If I pull it harder sometimes does. But when it is not I just let the clutch out and soon the car is moving an inch the stick jumps to the right reverse position itself. So I don't know is it just mine or all like that? Thanks guys!

I have found that is a common problem with all the manual transmission cars that I drive. Someone told me once that for your forward gears the trans. has SYNCROS that help the trans. fall into place, but they dont have them for the reverse gear.

You could try shifting to neutral, letting the clutch out to spin the gears and then clutch in and shift back into reverse. The owners manual says this may be required when shifting into first gear, maybe it would help for reverse also.If mine spontaneously jumped out of gear, I'd probably take it in to have it fixed.

Mine is a little more then a year old now and it does it as well, I think it is something that happens to all of them though. I don't even think twice about it just let it be.

If you put it in one of the forward speeds first, no grinding occurs, but the gears may not line up when you first try reverse. If I go to put mine in reverse and I sense the shifter isn't fully in reverse, I'll very slightly let out the clutch just enough to get the gears to go together and the shifter goes all the way into reverse.

EVERY CAR DOES THIS. PUT IT IN 1st, THEN REVERSE,,,YOU DONT EVEN HAVE TO MOVE just put it in first, then reverse. It has to do with the synchros.
