moons and toons using rca has poping sound

Post by russ257 »

When adding a aftermarket HU to a Vibe with Moon & Tunes don't use the high level outputs. it is too much power going into the amp. I hooked Cathy's HU up this way originally and got a ton of hiss and with the volume knob half way up it was at and unbearable volume already. The solution is to use the RCA outputs on the HU. Just grab a cheap RCA patch cord and cut off the ends and wire them to the speaker inputs going to the amp (the outside shield is negative, inside positive). And the hiss will dissapear and the volume control will be much more reasonable. (I wasn't bright enough to figure this out myself, so thanks John! ) allright mitro posted that earlier i did this by wiring my wires to my rca now it has no interference and i can turn it up but when i change radio stations and skipp between tracks on a cd i get this loud poping noise i think the amp is picking up some slight signal from the head unit and making it loud and obnoxious. any ideas or suggestions as to how i fix this tomorrow or wed i am going to try a diffrent sony head unit and see what happens

You either need noise filters on your rca's or you will need to take high low converter's on your speaker lead then into your rca's the high low converter acts like a big filter.john

I still haven't tried to fix this. I have a line level converter, but I'd need another one so I can do it for all four speakers. I really don't want to have to do it that way though...

I have this exact same problem. I was told it might be a grounding problem. I'm going to run a ground wire from the back of the head unit to the amp to make sure they are using a common signal ground. If that doesn't work I will go back to using the high-level speaker wires (instead of the RCA plugs). I called scosche and they said to use amplifier adapter OEA-4. The gain is adjustable so you can turn the power down to an acceptable level, which should get rid of any hiss. Here's the link:http://www.scosche.com/scosche/electronic/OEA4.aspYou can purchase it online here:http://www.buy.com/retail/electronics/p ... loc=111Let me know if you find another solution.

The poping noise is cause from non matching levels out it really hard to explain but if you get 2 Pac Sni35's and hook them up the the speaker levels of the radio to the sets of rca's going into the amp . I do this everytime at work when we have that kind of problem and then also when you use the sni35's you can also adjust the levels to your personal perference. i will try to get you a web site on those high low convertersjohn

ilquikgtx, I had originally thought of that, but the factory amp doesn't have RCA inputs. It only has regular speaker wires, so the SNI-35 is backward from what I would need, just like most line-level converters. The Scosche OEA-4 does the exact same thing as the SNI-35 but has high-level inputs and outputs (no RCA jacks). And, it's four channel, so I don't have to buy two like I would with the SNI-35.Nonetheless, I made a good ground from the head unit to the amp, and it made no difference (grabbing at straws). So, I'm ordering the OEA-4. That should fix the problem. I've used a similar product on my fathers Ford Explorer, and it worked great. Hopefully, I'll have the same luck. Also, I only had a lot of hiss when playing MP3 disks. I had some hiss with regular CDs, but it was tollerable. And yes, I tried different brands of CDRs and burned them at different speeds with no change in hiss. Thanks for your help.

Just to bring some closure...I installed the Scosche OEA-4. It works great. No popping, no hiss, great sound, normal volume. I adjusted the gain of each channel to to about 3/4 full, and the volume is a bit higher than normal without distortion. If you're having a problem, I suggest this amplifier adapter.
