Hi there all:I am so anxious about gettting the 2004 Vibe, yet I am still struck by the problems in the 2003 version. I know that production for the 2004 starts tomorrow. The rattling dash still bothers me a bit. What is this about the Vibe get stratched easily?
I drive one built in March 2002, and although I do have the dash squeaking problem -- or should say did have - easy fix with some electical tape -- I haven't noticed any problems with the paint at all.Good to hear that the newer ones seem to have had some issues addressed though.Greg

I picked mine up in november, it was built in September. I have had no rattles at all other then a passenger side speaker which was taken care of pronto by the dealer. No dash squeak, no pillar noise. As far as the paint, do have some surface scratches but I cant confirm a problem with the paint. I just used a coloured wax on the car this weekend and alot of the surface scratches are now gone. Worked great in my opinion.
575 miles on it now, no problems... chipped the paint on edge of door by bumping it into a brick wall....argh!!! Love every second of owning it!!

Mine was built the week of November 18th, and the only thing I noticed was a rattle under the dash when it is below 25 degrees outside. Like I said, that was the only one. No noises or problems other than that.

Paint on the front of the car is getting worse and worse. washed it again yesterday and noticed many more chips that are now getting bigger.

Mine's fine, not even a dash squeek. There may be a little rattle at a specific RPM but it's so small that I have only noticed a "buzz" once or twice.Paint's great... one prob I should have done something about is the fog lights... already cracked one, sigh. I knew I should have gotten protectors of some sort as they're mounted so low.Oh well - typical for fogs to get schmucked I guess. anyone else have this prob?

Mine was built in March of 2002 and it has the dash squeaks from hell. I gave the dealer 4 tries and I'm going to let them have one more shot and then I'm taking it apart and using the tape. I did call Pontiac customer service and was told to keep mine because it was a first run car. I almost told them what they could do with the first run car I would say though from what I hear on the various sites, the Vibe did get better over the past year and now is having few rattles and paint issues.
Mine is an April 2002. I have had a little trouble with the dash, but either it's not as bad as others or I need to get my hearing checked. I hope it's the former. The paint is the main part that bothers me. I've already got two rusting chips and I'm afraid that it won't stop there. I drive my family nuts looking out the window everytime I hear a car door in front of the house.
March of 2003 here for me, 1300 ish miles on it so far, and I can say that I have had NONE of the problems that others have listed in the past. No rattles anywhere, the DRL system has NEVER been a problem for me, and everything is seeming to work great so far!I couldn't be happier, i just can't wait for that supercharger to come in! ^_^
6K miles now - I've had NO warranty issues. Dash only vibrates when I hit resonance with all my mods - never heard it when everything was stock. Paint is weak.

quote:i want to know if those of you that are having paint probs got the teflon coating or not? No, no Teflon coating here. That's more of a marketing gimick than anything. Even if it did what they say, unfortunately it wouldn't keep the paint from getting chipped. It's just supposed to be a permanent wax (keep the paint clean and shiny). Too bad really. It would be nice if there were such a product.

My Vibe just passed the 51000 km (32000 mi) mark. I've owned it just 10 months. It was manufactured in March 2002; so it's an early one.My problems:I had a plugged exhaust manifold that went indiagnosed for about half that time, but I think that was an isolated event that will probably never happen to anyone else. I have a few paint chips, but not anything so bad that I've been highly motivated to go and get a bottle of paint. I had a few dash rattles, but they moved around a lot, so they weren't worth going to get looked at. Now, I don't hear them, so I think they're gone ... either that or I'm just used to them.My tires suck. Just make sure you don't get Continentals, or you'll be replacing them within 18 months (like I will be before winter).Overall, I'm pretty happy with the car. The cargo capacity is awesome. I like the seating position a lot. I bought the car to be more fuel efficient than the Ford Explorer it replaced & still have ground clearance & AWD. It has met my criterion.

I have had no unusual dash rattles or squeaks either. Only 2 small paint chips on the hood, should touch up pretty easily. I just hit 5,000 miles the other day and went to check the tires for wear. The fronts are worn to the wear bars and need replaced. These Continentals suck bad.

I haven't had any problems with the squeeky dash as of yet... but I have noticed almost a half dozen surface scratches. In my opinion it DOES sratch easily....I am thinking of using Meguiar's Scratch X product, and I was wondering if it would be a worth while purchase? And if not...what sort of product should I use to (hopefully) rid of my scratches?

I only have two squeak complaints: the radio and the driver's door. As far as I can tell, both just need a bit of tightening, which I'll have done at next oil change. Overall, I'm VERY satisfied with my decision. If I could go back and do it again, would I buy the Vibe? Hell no. I'd go for the Vibe GT OF COURSE! Hehe. That's my only regret. That I didn't go for the extra power...Even though this is not purebred Pontiac, I think I can say from personal experience that GM's quality has made amazing improvements in the past few years...and I think the company's ground-breaking 24 Hour Test Drive campaign is a sign that they have amazing confidence in their quality...I can only imagine the next Vibe generation will be even better than this one...and most of us love this group!
