Borla cat-back installed...pics & video

Post by rasermon »

This is one of the easiest mods that I have done so far. Unbolt the flange (Two bolts) and remove from the rubber brackets. Install front pipe and muffler assembly and check your tip alignment. Tighten the clamp to 32-35 ft. lbs. and your done. Took about 30 mins. to complete. I will post a sound file later.

Looks really good. I'm still not sure of the somewhat oval tip, but I don't think it is as odd looking as I thought it would be. How is the sound with the CAI?

please do post a sound file!! Im stuck between getting the borla package on ptuning.com or just going to a muffler shop with a bomb muffler and getting it custom because i want something loud. I want to see if the borla is loud enough/good sounding.

Aha, finally what I've been waiting for! Thanks Rasermon! You not only got the photo angle I've been waiting for (pic #4) but a sound file! Maybe I will be going Borla after all. I was thinking about just a Flowmaster muffler, but I think maybe this is the better choice. Good show!

Thanks for posting the clip!! Sounds pretty good!! Any chance you might be able to get in-car sound on an acceleration run?

That overpass looks very familiar....Sounds good. Can't wait to hear it in person. Usually sound clips of exhausts aren't that great, but your clips are very clear.

didn't seem to sound too much different then the flowmaster. No offense. I would have gone full catback had I had the money to spend as well.

dont want to burst all you borla fans out there's bubbles, but just a simple exhaust switch will get you damn near the same sound. the magnaflow that i got pretty much gets the sound done, and frees up some airflow. and it did take about .1s off of my quarter time so it did do something. if you have the money i would say go with the cat back, but if i am correct the cat-back is about $450-500usd which you are buying mostly the borla name. my muffler cost me 90 bucks installed.yogi from floridaout

I like my TRD exhaust, it has a good deep roar to it and a perfect sized tip thats not overly big. Sure it is a little expensive but it is very high quality, and I did notice a power increase with it.

Did you get into lift on that driving clip?? The Borla sounds almost like the Thermal, but Thermals more deeper sounding and gets VERY loud when the lift kicks in, which I love.Oh, and how did you mount the camera? Or someone holding it?

Very ingenius way to mount the camera!!! I don't know if I still have it, or if I burned it, but I made up a video camera mount made out of wood that fit in the back of my Vette. Darned thing weighed about 50 lbs.

I passed a riced-up Civic Si on instate 70 going through Columbus today - his exhaust sounded TERRIBLE! Really buzzy fart-can sound, but it really got bad when he would let off the gas. It literally sounded like something you might hear in bathroom. sptsptsptsptspt! LOL!

Thanks. I'm going to capture another video/sound clip to post later this week. This time I need a camera man. It's going to be a drive by 3rd gear in lift. I hope it produces a good note at that speed.

Another video/sound clip with the camera mounted to the back seat head rest with the rear hatch open. This gives the true sound from the Borla cat-back.

I've read a lot of the articles so far about Borla, but how much does this actually increase performance... anything noticable enough to spend the money, or is it all just for the sound?

I'm not a big fan of the stock exhaust (big round opening) so I thought at least the new sound and the smaller oval opening might look better.

Well, I'm sold lol. I had a Borla system on my last car ('99 Cougar V-6) and loved the bass tone and slight power increase I got with it (plus, the dual exhaust exits just looked cool).Guess I'll be going with Borla again. Great sound/vid clips!
