Although not mentioned in depth on our forums, I have read of many people complaining of a rattle/buzzing noise eminating from this area when you hit RPM's above ~4,000. So far, I have not heard of a sure-fire resolution to the problem. Here is a post describing the problem:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... 3173#13173

I have the buzzing problem as described. took it to the dealer and it is still there. when the weather warms up i'll try to fix it myself. i also have a rattle in the roof, behind the sunroof close to the dome light, only on bumpy roads. but the aformentioned buzz happens with increaced RPM and fades after about 5000RPM.

I'm getting so many rattles now that it sounds like the car is falling apart. I think I may have the rattle you mention, especially as I approach 4k rpms.

maybe it's these SMOOOTH Ohio roads shaking our Vibes apart. But aren't they still a blast to drive anyway?

I always kid with my gf that when we visit her parents in Michigan that I need a realignment. You will notice the roads getting a lot better around about 100 miles north of Cincinnati.

Mine has the vibration, sounds like a buzzing sound around 4000 RPM also. The rattle sounds like it is under the front window defroster also. I have noticed that it starts to do it after I have started driving for a while. I think it maybe because it is because of how cold it is. Hopefully it will resolve itself when it warms up. If not I will keep checking the forums for answers.

Update. I received my car back from the dealer and all sounded and functioned well, but about 2 miles away the rattles came back and the temperature guage is AFU. I would have turned around, but I had grad school and couldn't miss. Instead of fixing the temperature guage, it actually is always on the hotest setting, though I can turn it to any position. I dind't realize it until I went for a lengthy drive. Kept getting warmer and warmer and turned the guage to a colder and colder setting. Next thing, I'm taking off jacket, unbuttoning shirt, and even had the windows cracked. It was nearly freezing that day so you can imagine how hot the inside of the car was. Well, it's in the shop tomorrow and I'm working from home so I can stop in and talk to one of the tech managers. I feel it's very unfair for them to make one problem worse, and not address the other. Do you think a free oil change is fair?

I noticed a rattling/buzzing kind of noise when I was driving the other day and thought of all of you guys. I was exploring the problem and found that my noise was caused by a blotch of ice that formed at the base of the windsheild that was the result of some melting snow on the plastic tray-type piece that is the air inlet at the ouside base of the windshield. It was held firmly in place until I was driving for a little while. It came loose and was vibrating against the plastic as I drove. The sound would change at different RPM's and disappear if the RPM's went high enough. Out came the scraper and my noise was gone.

I remember reading a Vibe enthuasiast who ran into the same problem, though my poor memory is straining to recall what it is. He said there was some kind of unit under the dash that was held on by a single screw. If I remember right, he reinforced that unit and the rattling ceased. I'll do some online homework tonight and try to find it for everyone.

It was either the DRL or cruise control module -- can't remember offhand which it was.

I must edit my previous post. While the noise went away back then when I posted, it is now back and is always there even when there is no ice or anything on the outside of the windshield on that plastic tray. My noise is in the dashboard too, but I'll be darned if I'm going to tear the dash all apart to get to it. That's what buying the extended warranty was for. But man, is that noise annoying. I have to turn the radio way up to drown it out to keep from going totally crazy.

cruise control is correct, and the sound came from that same vicinity, but mine rattled well below 4000 RPM. Details at http://vibeowner.home.comcast.net

Hey Robdog. I had a similar problem. I could insert my fingers into the vent holes and lift the whole dash module up/down about 1cm. Took it to the dealer and asked the to anchor this module.( i didnt complain about various different rattles ) When I got the car back the dash was super tight, many of the squeaks/rattles had disappeared. If your service dept cant figure it out have them contact Hanson Pontiac, New Hamburg, ON., CAN.

I have what sounds like the problem you described. But my problem sounds more like a creaking sound coming from the same area. The sound only happens when I accelerate from a complete stop when at a light or stop sign or when driving in stop and go traffic. That is the only problem I have with my dash. So does anyone have an idea where it is coming from or what it can be?

Only thing I know is that the vibration is driving me insane. When I took it to the dealer to have it looked at, the tech said he couldn't hear anything..So I stopped by the dealership later in the day and *I* drove, with the tech riding shotgun. The vibration was there, he acknowledged it, but said that they wouldn't fix it because it only occurs in the moderate to high rev range. Found out from the service mgr. when I stopped at my dealer earlier this week to complain about the cladding, that I apparently scared the $(%* out of the tech the day he rode with me driving. Serves him right. At least he didn't mess up the passenger seat lol.
