new here

Post by rita »

Hi, I am new to this forum. I bought a 2008 Vibe some months ago. Manual, well, I am from Europe, so that's what I am used to anyway. I think it is a great car. But I am not a mechanic, not even an experienced car owner. (did car sharing for the last 15 years).

About to drive from the WestCoast to the East Coast in April, so I figure I will get to know the car better the next 6000 km's. ~;)
Drove back East to west in September 2012, I love this VIBE!

Great to have found this forum.

The holding back as you described is completely normal. The transmission won't shift in to the higher(4th) gear till the transmission is up to temp. It is completely normal. Watch your RPM as not to keep running at 5000rpm for a long time. For the first few mins of driving try to keep the rpm's low and it should then be up to temp so it will shift to the higher gear when you need it.

BTW, welcome to the board :D
One last thing, before the mob hits, please post photos, we all love a new owners pride in their ride.

mkowdley and Keith, thanks for your welcoming words.
I added one picture, but I will make some more the coming weeks.
Keith, thanks for explaining the holding back. It's an manual transmission, but I take it the explanation goes for that as well, will watch the rpm.

well if it's a manual that is depended on the gear you are in.. Sorry, thought you were talking about an automatic. It's a common question that most new owners ask about.

Welcome :D Are you in Canada or the States? List your location in your profile then it will show when you post! Either country you can drive "coast to coast" which is why I ask. I too have a manual transmission even though it is one year newer and don't quite understand your problem. I take it that it is just sluggish, or hesitant until it gets warmed up? There might be a sensor problem somewhere affecting engine performance. In any case you certainly got yourself one very dependable & versatile car and will not regret it. Any question you ask here on this forum will be answered by somebody. Again welcome ;)

Welcome welcome.
And I also experience the "holding back"
once the car reaches a certain temp, it will drop gears and take off, til then tho...i think it stays below 4k rpm or something.
I'm driving an Automatic tho. Can't imagine why you'd experience this on a manual tranny :?:
