Headline: Power Outage Up North

Post by disneydj »

Looks like our friend in New York, Ontario, Cleveland, and Southeast Michigan are without power as we speak. Not related to terrorists they say. I suggest all of us Vibe owners start driving north and put our outlets to good use. We can make everyone smoothies! Hope everyone up there is okay!

We have full power here now, but just south of me (10 miles) it is wide spread from what I hear on the local news.

We still have no power here in Lansing, MI. They say it is going to be a while. They called a code here at work that keeps up here until they say we can go. Oh well. Overtime. Money for my Vibe!

Our power finally came back on here at around 1 a.m. I lost my connection to the internet around just after making my post here yesterday. My PC was still up, but our servers shut down. When I went home, part of the city had been restored. When I got to my house though, of course there was no power. But within 10 minutes, my power came on. Great timing I guess.

It will be interesting to see how many birthdays will be on or about May 14th 2004, since there is not much else to do in the dark.

didn't you know that's why Alaska has to hire extra nursing staff for late summer/early fall? A lot of darkness= boredom and other things.

Our power is back!!!! It came back on around 1pm today. I left work yesterday right when the power died, about 4:10pm. It usually takes me about 45 minutes to get home, but yesterday it took me about an hour and a half. I think that's only because I got on the road ahead of most. There were no traffic lights, cops everywhere. Sitting on the expressway where it ends at a traffic light, you could see everyone trying to use their cell phones, but I only got about 1 in 5 calls to actually go through. We must have all just been overloading the systems. I saw that a Rite Aid near my house as open, so I went in and got the last 4 gallons of water. The store was dark and there were about 15 people in line in front of me with the last of the ice and batteries. The clerks were ringing everything up with hand calculators. It was crazy. My brother and I got home at the same time and found our water was only running at half pressure, so we filled up the bath tub and some buckets so we'd be able to flush the toilets and stuff. Well, the water did die shortly after that. The faucets just gurgled. I was reading at midnight and I heard the pipes making weird noises, so that's when our water came back on. Then I woke up this morning because it was raining really really really hard and we had to shut some of the windows. That sucked because it's so hot and humid that our wall paper is starting to bubble up in the kitchen. My brother asked me if I thouht the outlet in my Vibe would be able to handle an entension cord and run the sump pump. The thought didn't sit well with me so I told him to wait it out a bit. This morning, the phones were all dead and the water was still not up to full pressure, so I went back to sleep. Then I got up again about 1 because I heard my parents talking to the neighbors below my bedroom window, talking about how the power must be back because one of our other neighbors was already running their airconditioner. The news says not to turn your air back on yet or take showers, but I took a shower anyway. I'm such a rebel. My brother was supposed to go see Tori tonight and go to Toronto for the weekend and see Radiohead, so he's pretty pissed about this whole incident. I guess the Tori show was rescheduled for Monday, but he's not sure what's up with the Toronto thing now. All I have planned is waiting for the lines at the gas stations to go down so I can get gas and go for a nice long drive and get away from the 'rents for a while.

How does your computer work without power? Had no power for about 25 hours here. Makes the 115 V plug in the VIBE look really valuable at a time like this. Charged my cell phone, rechargable flashlights etc. We're looking at rolling blackouts for the next few days at least. She's come undone.
