NooBe Here ! 05 Vibe AWD Questions

Post by hiskid1973 »

My daughter and SIL enjoy driving a pristine 03 Matrix(37k) that I found for them 2 years ago..She uses it most because her job is further and on country roads(not first to be plowed). He was stuck driving and aging Escort with 160k which with not pass inspection in May because of frame rust...Anyway since the matrix is paid for we went Impreza and VibeMatrix AWD shopping..Plenty of Imprezza's in a 50 mile radiius, no Matrix's and three Vibes..She really liked the 2.4 Imprezzas spunkiness but just likes/is used to her Matrix( gas costs played in there). Both salesmen we're a breath of fresh air.The imprezza at a mom and pop and the Vibe at a huge dealer..The vibe is an 05 AWD with about every option. The worst wear/scratches were in the deck surface of the the before the rear bumper. The rear seat area looked unused and the engine clean and quiet after a cold start. It ran/shifted just like her Matrix except for pulling to the right(will get checked/aligned tomorrow with the detail. Anyway I gave the guy a lowball to see where the sales mgr would respond. To make a long story short I get them down $750 plus a $250 internet sale and $250 for the escourt. This put me in the number for a private sale excellent condition..SO i said all that backstory to ask if there is anything in particular for the 70-75K range to investigate during the 90 day 3k warranty I couldn't see all the underside but what I saw looked good. Thanks for any help..GBY !

Congrats on the Vibe! Word is you should inspect the rear differential to make sure it's not leaking, as this is a fairly common problem in the AWD models. I think that was the main concern, but I'm sure someone will chime in if there's anything else.

Do not put off getting that pulling to the right thing checked. It seems minor, but it's possible that it's really not. My sister got a car that did that and then when she was driving it home, it suddenly pulled right very violently, started going insane and whipping all over the road, and she ended up smacking the side of a bridge and then being thrown into a fifteen foot deep ditch, which completely totaled her first car. She didn't even have it for a day.
My lovely Gambit.

Thanks for replies. They should be checking the alignment/repair before she picks it up..I just told her about the rear seal/differential..BTW, she would like to acquire dedicated snow/wheels by next winter..I just noticed locally 4 one season Blizzacs($200) the same size as the new off brand radials that are installed on the car.Any other comparable brands..

IIRC it was about 9k something out the door with tax, tag, title and any other fees..I did check the KBB and with the age/condition/mileage it was about what you would see a private sale...I don't remember KBB dealer but they were asking 10,395
