Headlight question

Post by coloneludatank »

I noticed that my vibe when I got it had weak head lights and I was having an issue seeing at night and I realized that my right headlight beam was pointing downward when I pulled into my driveway so I went thru the forums and found out how to adjust the beams. I did try to adjust them but to no avail the right head lamp beam would not go up at all.I went out and bought HIDS's which I have in now and they are bright as hell. and I tried again to readjust the height level of the RH beam and it still would not go up so upon making the adjustment I realized that the headlight is loose and is pushing forward out of the front bumper.Hmmm.....I put one of my ballast between the back of the RH headlight and some plastic and it raised the beam to correct level as the LH side. Am I missing something? is there a bolt that is missing under the Headlight that I am not aware of? If so can someone point me in the right direction because now when I hit a bump the RH Headlight beam falls right back down pointing at the floor or do I need to buy a new headlamp?Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Two things. One, if the reflector bucket is moving around when you put in your Hids then the reflector bucket popped out of one of the ballsockets or one of the ballsockets brokeTwo, if you just kept trying to raise the headlamp by cranking and cranking on the adjuster you now have stripped it, it is made of plastic. Now, you have two options one open up your headlight by some sort of heat method and try to fix what is broke on the inside or you can buy a new headlight.

Maybe someone with more experience with our headlights might be able to chime in. But if I had this problem I would wait for a nice warm day and start taking them and you could probably find the issue.

I have the same issue with my pass. side one, Keith. It goes up so far and stops, but still adjusts back down, so it cant be stripped. Coloneludatank, does yours adjust back down?

Coloneludatank Can you please post a photo?there are three bolts that hold the headlight in place. the one you might be missing is down under the bumper. The only way to get to it is to remove the bumper, though some have pulled back the one side and got the bolt that way but if it's a bit cold out you could snap your bumper.Quote, originally posted by DopeVibeGT »I have the same issue with my pass. side one, Keith. The OP said he had no adjustment at all. Your headlight has up and down adjustment. So the stripped issue doesn't apply to you.Remove the rubber gaskets on the back of the headlight, stick your hand down there with them removed and see if you can move the reflector bucket, if it wiggles you have the same issue I stated above. The bucket has come out of the ball socket or the socket has broken.I have a video floating around one of my hard drives that I can post to show what happens when it breaks or pops out of the ballsocket.

Actually i fixed the issue by placing (2) 1in thick rubber washers under the head light in the hood were it sits on top of a perfect metal square on the left side near the A/C lines toward the front of the car to prop it up and prevent the light from shaking anymore. Then placed another 1in rubber washer on the each the bolts that connect to the fender and front grille and if I do say so myself it is working great until I get my replacement Right Headlamp.DopeVibeGT yes it did adjust back down as well and I will post pics tomorrow. I only worked with what I had laying around my home to put a temp. fix on the problem.
