The Federal govt. provides mpg info on vehicles based on 100% gasoline and then pushes 10% ethanol blends that reduce your mileage. What a crock!----------------------------------------------------------------Ethanol-free gas rare but popularAside from marinas, 'rec' fuel sold by only two Brevard vendorsBY PATRICK PETERSON • FLORIDA TODAY • June 19, 2009 Gasoline without ethanol has become a hot commodity for the only two vendors who sell it in Brevard County.We just recently started bringing it in because there's been such a hue and cry for it from the marinas," Ken Marshall, vice president of Glover Oil in Melbourne, said Thursday.Favored by boaters and motorcyclists, the fuel -- known as recreational gasoline -- was put on sale to the public last month by Glover Oil."It's a more rare product," Marshall said. "A year ago, everything started going to ethanol."Glover Oil must truck in supplies from Tampa, Port Everglades or Jacksonville. Under federal and state mandates, most service stations sell only gasoline to which ethanol -- usually made from corn -- has been added to raise the octane level."Most of the big suppliers, that's all that they put out," Marshall said.Ethanol absorbs water and can degrade rubber seals and gaskets. Boat engines, weed trimmers, lawn blowers, generators, motorcycles and older auto engines are most affected. Ethanol contains one-third less energy than gasoline. And many makers of lawn care machinery, marine engines, motorcycles and high-performance autos recommend avoiding gasoline with ethanol.However, by 2011 all gasoline sold in Florida must contain ethanol, with the exception of fuel sold for boats, collector cars and small engines. Federal law requires that 36 billion gallons of ethanol a year be blended with U.S. gasoline by 2022."You don't get as much gas mileage with the ethanol in it and it clogs up your catalytic converter in your car and it ruins your boats," James Blizzard, 75, of Cape Canaveral said as he filled up his SUV at Neil's Riverside BP station in Melbourne, the other public source of non-ethanol gasoline in Brevard. "I get two or three miles per gallon more out of the ethanol-free gasoline.""I'm down here from Cape Canaveral double-checking this out so I can be sure where it is," said Blizzard, who owns a 22-foot powerboat. "Then I'll bring my boat down here and fill it up."

Thankfully (with the exception of Mowhawk/Husky) There is no ethanol (<1%) in our gas! Hopefully the BC/Canadian gov't keeps it that way!

Wall St Jrl 2-29-12 Me & My Car: "Drivers using the typical 10% ethanol blend should expect a decrease of 3 to 4% in fuel economy." That is about 1 mpg +/-.For me, I also have to add another 0.63 mpg to my calculated value because I actually am driving 102.5 miles for every 100 miles that the odometer reads.If my odo shows 250 miles driven and I used 10 gal of gas that is 25 mpg. Since I have actually driven 256.25 miles that is 25.63 mpg. Factoring in the 3.5% loss due to ethanol, that is an EPA 100% gasoline equivalent of 26.6 mpg. I feel better already.

There are only 1 or two stations in Ottawa that sell ethanol-free gas (IIRC).I was at one on Monday, and the price was $1.47/L or $5.56/US Gal

In Alberta, FasGas 91 and Petro-Can 91 are sold without Ethanol. Not too sure what other stations offer it. Sometimes they state on their websites which of their fuels contain and do not contain Ethanol. Email their customer service, both Petro-Can and FasGas responded to my emails.

Not sure how many places here in the US still have ethanol free gasoline. I know here in NY...nobody does, that I know of anyway. It seemed us way up here in the woods were the last to see it.I do know that about three 80 car trains of ethanol travel through town here a week, to refineries futher south in the state...it's been a boom for them. JR

There is one BP in Wilmington, NC listed as selling no ethanol added gasoline. Unless they have a special marine pump, that is not believable.In Ohio, several Marathon stations are listed. Does any one really believe that Marathon is going to distribute two gasoline formulas?While the subsidy was eliminated, as well as the import tariff, the federal government still mandates the use of a certain amount of ethanol in gasoline - which is the same as force feeding the public that mixture. That creates an artificial demand for ethanol that props up its price.
