I need new tires

Post by lannvouivre »

The stock tires have been on my car for over 65,000 miles now, and the back ones just barely passed inspection.Anyway, I thought I'd ask here before getting new ones because you guys have experience driving the same car...and you're not the ones selling the tires! The tire size I'll need is 205/55-16, and I'm looking for all-season tires because the roads here flood if you so much as accidentally spill a glass of water. I'm not too concerned with lifespan since I've only driven this car about 28,000 miles in the 6 years I've had it, plus I drive very gently. I'd like to stay under $110 per tire and either get them from Discount Tire or Sams. I've looked at reviews on tires on DT's site; so far the "Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport" tires have the highest user rating...besides the "Riken Raptor HR" tires.

There is a lot of variation out there and everyone will have opinions on a brand they bought and said is amazing. The only thing i can do is warn you to never buy any Falken tire in that size. They are horrible and wear out prematurely. There are over a dozen solid choices though so pick what is best and local to you for the price. Frankly, i saved some money and got a cheapo National set after being burnt with my first set and have had over 40k trouble free miles on them. If you are not pushing the car, find something with a long tread life for under $100 a tire and skip the sticky ones with a V rating, it's just throwing money away.

Well you're in LUCK!! There's a App for that!! errrr, a FORUM for that!!!http://forums.genvibe.com/zeroforum?id=4Determine your desires, performance, noise or wear. Shop accordingly. All tires are NOT created equally and are priced accordingly.Overall tire costs have skyrocketed in the past few years so prepare yourself for the $$ shock.Dave

There's nothing inherently wrong with 205-55-16 Falkens. I have two SN-828's that are just now approaching the end of their life after 50K miles. This is with regular 5K miles rotations and proper pressure of course. Wouldn't hesitate to get them again.

I put the Bridgestone Potenza R760s on my 10 GT back in December and they are great in wet weather or dry. I hit some curb deep water during a bad storm last month. I was able to slow down from about 45 to 20 or so before I hit it and it did not even faze them one bit. I just plowed right through the water. It was only about 15 feet across where the flood was, but it was very stable. I did pay close to $800 for the tires with road hazard and LT balancing and everything for 235-40-18s though.

I ended up getting Arizonian Silver Edition tires. The ride is much smoother and quieter now. I chose them because they were less expensive and had pretty good reviews on other sites (and also because Bedlam suggested I also got to test them on wet roads this morning, and the steering felt a little squirrely. I guess I'll play around in a parking lot when it rains again to see what I can do...

I just got the Michelin Primacy MXV4 (205/55-16) for the Vibe and wow, what a difference. It's very quiet and smooth. I used to have General Tire Altimax hp and they were okay but the Michelin's are most excellent. I got 16" Konig Incident rims also.
