Fuel System - EVAP Canister Vent Solenoid Valve

Post by o1gagt »

I ran into something very odd this evening. I went out into the garage about 10:30 PM and I hear an electric humming. So I walk around the garage and can't pin point the source of the noise. I go inside and check that the bathroom vent fan that is near the garage is off, the A/C unit to the house is off, and there is nothing going on outside. Upon returning to the garage I still hear the same electring humming noise. so I circle the 06 vibe and put my ear in the inner fender of the rear driver side tire and located the general area of the noise. I got in the vehicle keyed on and the noise stopped immediately. So I shut it off and crawled under the rear of the vehicle and noticed that the EVAP Canister Vent Solenoid Valve is in the same area that I was hearing the noise. I am not sure how long this had been running as my wife was home from work at 4:30 PM. Has anyone else had this problem? If I have a battery drain in the next week, I know where to look.

Don't worry, the sound you hear is normal. This is what it says on page 2-27 in the owner's manual:"Your vehicle is equipped with a vacuum pump for thevehicle’s fuel evaporation system. This pump performs afuel evaporation leakage text approximately five hoursafter the engine is turned off. You may hear a soundcoming from underneath the rear cargo compartment forseveral minutes.""The noise is normal and does not signify a malfunction."

Once again, GenVibe to the rescue. I have been hearing this exact same noise for a couple of months now. Everytime that I take my dog out for the last time before going to bed (about 5 hours after coming home from work). I would turn the key on and it would stop.Heard it again tonight and decided it was time to google it. GenVibe, once again has the answers. Love this forum! So much great info on here.
