ok, i put the nice monsoon sound tweeters in my doors today, found a set at the junkyard for $20 for the pair with their trim panel piece that goes on the door, i used MB-Quart tweeters though because they are better, however i noticed that the factory door speakers are in a plastic trim ring thats rivited to the door, all i want to remove is the door speaker itself, i want to keep the trim ring because the new 6" woofer will fit right into it.does anyone know how to remove the factory woofer without having to drill out the pop rivits?matthew
It's been awhile since I did mine but I don't think there is. I had to drill the rivets out and cut the old speaker out of the plastic trim ring. I then used some dynamat material around the opening and screwed the new speakers in using the modified trim ring. Keep looking around on the forums, cause I know i've seen pictures of people showing how to do it. Like I said, it's been years since I did it. I also shaved down some of the plastic "cone" that is on the actual door panel speaker grills. It was a little too close to the rubber around my speakers so I wanted to give it more room to breathe.
thanks, got all the speakers replaced, and the door tweeters added (installed them in factory monsoon sound tweeter pods i got from the junkyard) i installed cerwin vega 6.5" woofers in the front doors after cutting apart the OEM woofer out of the container, then i added the MBquart tweeters in the factory pods.in the rear i drilled a small hole in the door panel and installed tweeters in the door panels (not sure what brand they are, probably just a cheap generic tweeter) now the doors are where it got alittle more complicated, i was going to install some tang band 6.5" subwoofers (the neo subwoofers with HUGE xmax that are forsale on parts express) however the magnet on them was so large that it was hitting the outter shell of the door. So i switched them out for a pair of the 5.25" tang band subwoofers and problem solved.while i was in everything i prewired everything including the sony mobile ES 3046 amp, its going under the passenger seat and it will power all the door speakers via two of its channels, and it will power either one ten inch subwoofer, or one twelve, it all depends on how my custom subwoofer enclosure goes. i plan on cutting out some of the plastic in the rear hatch area and building a custom fiberglass pod inside the body of the car and also customizing the outter shell. Im not the greatest with fiberglass so i bought an extra set of plastic from a junkyard so if i screw up this vibe's OEM panels, ill replace them with another set.ill take pictures when its all done.matthew
