My wife's van crapped the bed, so, in order to save gas and be safe, we're trying to get her a 2005 salsa awd. Going Thursday morning to the dealer. Hopefully it will be coming home with us this weekend. Wish us luck.
Keithvibe has recently expressed some interest in selling his '05 AWD. He is probably 5-6hrs from you away but at least you know the car and the owner.

I would love to buy his car, but, when you don't use your credit, you lose your credit. I haven't used mine in so long, my rating is now "0", litteraly. So, I'm forced to start over with a co-signer and at a dealer. Once I get some credit rolling along, I'll be more than happy to adopt a quality vehicle, be it new or cared for. Maybe even with fewer than 4 wheels.
I know. I did the happy dance when I found it. And it's awd. Safer for her in the winter. She only drives around town doing errands. She tried to drive the red mist today. She's never driven a manual. She stalled like 20 times. Didn't do so bad though.
Well kids, let this be a lesson to you. If you don't use your credit, life becomes difficult in today's world. Yes, I got the loan, no, I didn't get the car yet. My down payment, since I'm a "ghost" in the credit world, was almost 40% of the total loan. Had I been a good boy and stayed active with my credit, I would have had no down payment. So, I'm going to be busy for the next 3 weeks saving as much as possible to make the down payment with OT and tax refund. I'll even try to get them to take her can in trade if they will. (doubtful). We haven't given up, we've just hit a snag in the process.

I don't really have any NATIONAL credit either, so I can't get a credit card (if I wanted one) or financed through big names, but I CAN stroll into or call my bank and say Hey, can I get this? and they say, come on in and sign. Local credit with small town banks are nice, better interest rates, too. Good luck with saving up!

Without any info on a credit report, they have no clue, so in essence they're "taking a chance" that you won't "screw them over". Unfair and stereotypical yes, but not all that unexpected.
I've never had a credit card, and my last loan was a car I paid off 18 years ago. My thought has always been why borrow when you can just save and buy. Now that theory is not the proper way to go. You have to borrow in a responsible fashion or be treated as a possible cheat. It's best to borrow once in a while, even if it's a small amount in order to keep up a good appearance. I'm confident I can get the money for this in a few weeks, tax return and some overtime will get me there quickly.
YES ... this is an eye opener for anyone out there who pays CASH for everything, then all of a sudden needs to borrow $$$ from a financial institution I've had several loans but the most recent was for the wife's G8. the prior loan was 7years earlier for her prior car (Trailblazet Ext). We had no problems. Also I do have TWO credit cards and use them very responsibly. I only charge what I KNOW I can pay for, thus avoiding any finance charges. After all, thanks to the GM Card, I was able to knock off $4650 off my Vibe when I bought it back in May 2009 . I wonder where they draw the line as far as how long your borrowing inactivity stood? Fifteen, ten, eight years ??? Maybe it varies from person to person and also demographically.Back on to this topic .................... Glad you'll be getting another Vibe You'll join the ranks of SEVERAL "Two Vibe families" here on this community. Post some pics of the siblings next to each other when you get it
I have heard that just a good record in paying utility bills counts. Fortunately I have had no need to borrow money for the past 20 years or so - but I do have many active credit cards that I pay in full every month and reap the "rewards". Chase bank had an AARP Visa Card offer that pays 5% cash rebate for the first 6 months - I have so far got $1,000 in cash back. My "cash" purchases are never more than $50 a week. The GM Master card has saved me thousands over the past 10 or so years because they have often "upped" the reward. I had about $1,250 in "earnings" that they upped to $3,000 when I bought my last Vibe in Jan. 2009. Currently they are offering to up my $850 in earnings to $2,000 if I buy a new GM car. Not in the market presently but maybe when I am there will be another good offer.

If not this vibe (I'm hoping I can make enough in time to get it) my wife will be in a vibe as quick as I can make the down payment. I really like this one though, it was 90% or better showroom quality. My only issue was the lack of the previously installed mid gate spoiler. I'll have 1/2 the down payment in two weeks. You think if I asked, they would hold the car for me if I made installments on the down payment over the next few weeks? Sounds rediculous doesn't it. It should tell them I am guaranteeing them a sale.
It may sound ridiculous, but they are in the business of selling cars. If they know you are an eager buyer and will do what it takes to get the Vibe, they should accommodate you within reason.Good luck!!
